will the onkyo take 5 inputs? it clearly has 5 amplifiers on board, but the question is can you plug into them without taking the cover off and performing some surgery?

LFE channel isn't the most important aspect - you should be able to get you SBlive to mix that into the 5 channel outputs. if you have full-range enough speakers, you'll not miss much.

[edit] btw, old amps usually sound as good if not better than new amps, so i'd be performing surgery before buying a new amp. this is why old amps tend not to go down in price all that much - they're like SLR cameras in that respect.

i am not familiar with this method, but would nice to know how others think about it.
Using AC3Filter for example to downmix all signals to Dolby Pro Logic to send to an amp?
This may be a solution for hyway.
