for example i have a dvd movie, and want to record just like 30 seconds into an .avi ... how can i do that?

well depends on which 30 seconds you want.... basically just follow the standard proceture... rip with dvddecrypter, open the vobs in dgindex, select the range you want to rip eith the [ and ] buttons, create the d2v file, create a simple avs script, encode with vdubmod!

being a newbie i might ger flamed for this, but.... dvdshrink can select start and end points, i used it to cut out start and end credits, but i think it could cut back more and just leave you with whatever you want

steward, no you won't get flamed, but maybe a little corrected. while it is true that you can do the cutting with dvdshrink, you (unfortunately) cannot convert a DVD to avi with it...

so it would theoretically be possible to first cut the dvd with dvdshrink, then convert it to avi, it wouldn't make much sense!
