How to make a home video in Divx HD?

I just downloaded "Bourne Supremacy" DivX High Definition Sample
from divx.com, its really amazing. now I'm wondering how they
did that? say even if you have a "Bourne Supremacy" original DVD
already, you wouldn't be able to RIP it to such a quality through
Divx, can you? I don't think so. second, how can we make a home video
have same quality or even close to it? whats really behind it? will
those $2500.00-$4999.00 prosumer 3CCD miniDV really make differance
that can produce such HD quality? why Divx post such HD sample on
their site? does that means if I use DIVX codec and some sort of high
end camcorder then I can make such a HD avis?

Hi,

It’s all about the capture resolution; the HD clips on DivX.com have a source resolution of 1280x720 far beyond the 720x480 of the DVD, so even the highest quality rip with the highest quality resize will never be as nice. It’s different when it come to HD camcorder, the JVC can actually capture at 1280x720 progressive and thus is very well suited for creating such high quality source, the Sony is capturing Interlaced image only, making it a little less suited for DivX certified HD. Also keep in mind that what you see on the trailer website is high quality, high production value content, the HD camera is just the first step to get there...

HD sample? is it from a DVD? my point is, Divx post those HD samples
on their site, what does that means to us? lets say I want a HD
quality Divx movie of Finding Nemo, how do I do it? or why Divx.com
even bother to post those HD samples makes it like a big deal
meanwhile we can't do much about it?

Can't be from a DVD, because, as already said, the resolution is not HD.
It has to be created directly from the 35mm film source. The same way DVDs are created. Just with another resolution.

thats my point, if its not from DVD, if its not from miniDv, basically
we can't do too much about it, I would like to have some nice full HD
DIVX movies(instead of trailers :) on my hard disk,bottom line is,
HOW?
(and then the question to Divx.com why they post those HD trailers
on their site is, why?)

youd have to get HD sources, unfortunately there arent a lot. i believe there are HD transmissions via satelite though.

the HD samples on DivX site are just for promotion, just to let you see what they already can do.

There are also DVDs sold with HD content. These are no video DVDs, but data DVD-ROMs with a HD video file (WMV I believe)

I know they exist for Underworld, Tomb Raider 2, and some other movies that I can't name right now.

DVD only 4.7GB, how can it hold a HD data of 1 movie?
I would image there's next generation DVD, maybe some sort of HD DVD
which can holds 24GB or some, then we use Divx 8.24 to
encode it to a regular 4.7GB DVD-R but with HD format :)

DVD is not 4.7GB. It is either 4.37 GB (single layer), or 7.95 GB (dual layer). And with high compression codecs, like the ones based on MPEG-4, you can fit 720p on a dual layer DVD nicely.
I didn't say that there are single layer DVDs with HD content. They are dual layered, just as most of the regular video DVDs.

DVD only 4.7GB, how can it hold a HD data of 1 movie?

For example DivX use q3 or q4 for 1280*720 resolution and 3.5 Mbps for very good quality (not very high quality). M$ use higher quality and 5-6 Mbps for HD-WMV in 720p. MPEG4 ASP or WMV9 can use "DVD bitrate" for 720p movie with high quality.

- 2H00 video + audio 5.1 with DVD5 in 720p
- 4H00 video + audio 5.1 with DVD9 in 720p
- 2H00 video + audio 5.1 with DVD9 in 1080i
