Trouble With Dvdr Disc's

I'VE DOWN LOADED SOME MOVIES, ENCODED TO DVD AND BURNED THEM. PLAYED THEM ON THE PC AND ON STAND ALONE DVD PAYER. HOWEVER THEY WILL NO LONGER PLAY ON EITHER. WHEN I TRY PC IT DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNISE THAT THERE IS A DISC IN THE DRIVE AND THE PC FREEZES UNTIL I REMOVE THE DISC. ON THE DVD PLAYER NOTHING HAPPENS. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT BECAUSE I HAVE ABOUT 9 RECENTLY MADE MOVIES THAT HAVE STOPPED WORKING BUT OTHERS I HAVE DONE WORK FINE.I'VE USED THE SAME DISC'S AND ENCODING AND BURNING FORMATS. I JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE AS ANY IDEAS WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. WOULD MAGNETS IN SPEAKERS HAVE ANY INFLUENCE ON THE DISCS?

Dude, your caps lock was activated. You need to deactivate it. It's easier to read a normal text.

Now to your problem: The discs are resistent to magnetism, so no problem there.
I think the problem are the discs itself. What media code do they have ? The brand itself doesn't mean much, it's the media code that matters, and that can be different for discs of the same brand. Anyway, what brand were these discs ?
El cheapo discs don't last long, you always should buy quality discs.

Also, what speed are the discs advertised at, which brand DVD burner do you have, and which firmware version is on it ? Maybe you need a firmware upgrade first.

people read caps ~25% slower than lowercase. in my case even slower for some reason... i found it very difficult to read that.

btw, downloading copyrighted movies is stealing. REPENT YOUR SINS-AAAH!! BOW DOWN TO THE LORD-AAH!!

hehe.. you've got crap discs, unfortunately. to allow some good to come of this situation, tell as many people as you can what discs these were - what brand, and possibly the media codes (if you can get them off the discs).

it's not good enough that companies are releasing discs that stop working after 2 weeks. there's been a few posts about this. it's simple - discs should be DVD-R compliant if they are to bear the DVD-R insignia. the powers that be (DVD forum? no idea) should be coming down hard on these disc makers for bringing the format into disrepute.

btw, most home-theatre speakers are shielded. i know mine are because they're right next to my teev, and i enjoy good colours on it. i also tend to use the boxes as shelves and keep tapes and crap on them (not a good idea if they weren't shielded)

sorry about the caps.
the disc's are swiss tech + by sky media. they say the are dvd r and 1\4 speed 4.7 gig.
I use dvd shrink to burn them and on occation nero6 but that's gone a bit wappy since I installed xp upgrade.could one of the dvd players be stripping the data off of the disc's?

The problem you have is with cheap DVD-R media over time the die on the media fades / runs.

The end result, the disks are junk.

Even high end DVD-R media will eventually do that same thing... my rule of thumb is if I can drop a burned dvd-r back in and re-image with DVD-Decrypter after oh... 2 months it's fair.

From what I've read too... if you keep your disks out of the light, they will last longer.. I keep most mine in a caselogic case

Personally, I try to stick with TDK / Ritek / Verbatium media

Bying el-cheapo disks is always a bad idea, but..

DVD burners keep a list with known DVD's and the right burning strategies for them in firmware. If your disk is either unknown or has the wrong burn strategy set in the firmware it is coaster time. :)

For NEC DVD burners there are even hacked firmwares available that contain instructions for some of the more cheaper disks (mostly DVD -R disks). Look at http://www.rpc1.org

So, always start with obtaining the latest firmware.
