Not easy to explain. You have to demux the title and mux it again.

There are two cases:
A) Single PGC VTS
B) Multi PGC VTS

But, to simplify the explanation, I'm going to assume the worse case: a multi-pgc VTS.

- Extract your celltimes with IFOEdit
- Demux all your streams with a ripper. There are many of them able to do it. Do not use Vobedit to demux, unless you previously isolate your PGC.
- Transcode your audio.
- Mux again the streams in the same order, using the celltimes extracted before. You can use IFOedit or Rejig for that. After this step, you will get a full functional DVD but with no menus and only one title.
- Use VobBlanker :) to replace in your original DVD the new title.
- Minor manual changes with IFOEdit to fix the new audio attributes (VobBlanker corrects only the video attributes changes)

PS: If your original title has ILV cells or multiangle ones this method will not work. And, frankly, I do not know how to do it.

:goodpost:

I've seen somewhere in a guide about replacing subtitles (where you also have to demux/remux the vobs) that the remux function in IfoEdit only works correctly with PAL movies, whereas ReJig should be used for NTSC. Can anyone confirm this?

Is the remux function and the reauhtoring function the same thing in IfoEdit?

Also I've read in that same guide that IfoEdit v0.96 is full of errors so that IfoEdit v0.95 should be used instead? Is that really true?

I've always used VobEdit to demux vobs if needed. Also movies with more PGCs. I just select the first 0.99 gb vob file, and VobEdit seems to do the job. Why is that not so, jsoto? Which freeware tool should I use instead to demux my vobs (both singe and multi PGC movies)?

Is the remux function and the reauhtoring function the same thing in IfoEdit? Remux and authoring are different things. I've never used remux, so I can`t give you any feedback. Authoring works very very well in PAL. It's faster than Rejig and seems to me more accurated with Celltimes than Rejig. But there are many problems reported in NTSC. (I'm a happy PAL user :) )
Also I've read in that same guide that IfoEdit v0.96 is full of errors so that IfoEdit v0.95 should be used instead? Is that really true? In my experience, absolutely NO. IfoEdit 0.96 fixes some (minor, in my opinion) bugs, like the ones related with authoring delays. But I've not found a "new" bug. But, as I said, I'm only using PAL materials...
I've always used VobEdit to demux vobs if needed. Also movies with more PGCs. I just select the first 0.99 gb vob file, and VobEdit seems to do the job. Why is that not so, jsoto? VOBEdit does not open the IFO so it cannot know which cells are included in a PGC and which are not. So, it "only demux" the whole VTS, but the timing references are lost and the resulted streams are not synchronized. Think, for example, what will happen with the extracted audio streams if PGC #1 has two audios, PGC #2 has only one and PGC #3 has three. And think in more complicated stuff like angles/ILV cells...
Which freeware tool should I use instead to demux my vobs (both singe and multi PGC movies)? I believe you can use Vobedit if you previously isolate the title with a ripper (smartripper, i.e., which can work from files).
I never tried to demux the streams with the ripper, but sure you can do it. I'm currently using DVD2DVD (I love this program) for audio and VobSub+Sub2Sup for subpictures (and I'm also writing my own simple tool)

Is the remux function and the reauhtoring function the same thing in IfoEdit?Let's start with what is re-authoring. In my definition, reauthoring is the process of taking demuxed elementary streams (Audio, Video, and Subpictures)and remuxing them back together. I'm talking about demuxing because of the "re" in front of reauthoring. If not, it'll just be called authoring if I started from scratch.

Now remuxing is the same thing but with one catch. In IfoEdit or ReJig, you can only change a m2v (elementary MPEG2 video stream)within a VOB (remux). That's why IfoEdit and ReJig calls for your new m2v and not SUP (Subpictures stream).

Also I've read in that same guide that IfoEdit v0.96 is full of errors so that IfoEdit v0.95 should be used instead? Is that really true?By personal preference, I mainly used v.095 since that's what I started with. If I felt v.95 was not my cup of tea then v.96 would've been the next in line.

Which freeware tool should I use instead to demux my vobs (both singe and multi PGC movies)? IfoEdit, VobEdit, ReJig, DVD Decrypter, vStrip, SmartRipper. Did I forget anything?

 Sorry for asking all these stupid questions, but I'm just a nOOb trying to learn.... I hope I'll be able to pass on some of tghe knowledge I obtain from you experienced guys and my own playing around with DVDs, and in this way contribute to the community.

About "remuxing subtitles": Sorry for not knowing the correct terminolgy. What I meant was putting separate video, audio and subtitle streams back together after they've been demuxed using VobEdit etc. can see that's what you call re-auhtoring, 2COOL, and I understand now that the term "remux" actually is reserved for another process in IfoEdit (and ReJig) where only the video stream is replaced inside a vob.

Thanks for clearing things up about IfoEdit v0.95 vs. 0.96. Perhaps the misconception of v0.96 is caused by the info on the IfoEdit homepage saying that v0.95 is the last stable version.

About the freeware tools for demuxing: After I saw your reply, 2COOL, i tried playing with DVD-Decrypter. But how in the world do you use that program to demux the streams? Also, I can't get it to work with a movie on my HDD (in a TS_VIDEO folder). It seems like I can only get it to use media in my DVD drive as a source? Which tool do you consider the best and easiest tool for demuxing a titleset into separate video, audio and subtitle streams? (And celltimes, too, for the video?) Is the program DoItFast4U, which is hosted here at Doom9, too, any good in this respect?

If I have a DVD with a menu set and some titles on it (the main movie and some extras), is it then possible to

1) demux the title with the main movie,
2) re-author the title with the same streams, but with one of the subtitle streams replaced by a new one, and then
3) mix that newly authored title back into the original title set, so that menus etc. can be used?

Which (freeware) tools would you recommend for each of the processes?

(I don't know which tool to use for the dumixing part, see above. And I think the best and easiest way of re-authoring using freeware tools is to use IfoEdit for re-auhtoring a PAL title and ReJig for re-auhtoring a NTSC title? And I think I saw somewhere that VobBlanker can be used to import the newly authored title into the original titleset, but is that the best/only program to use here, and how exactly do I do it?) :scared:

One if your VTS had more than one Title (main movie with extras) or just a main movie (a single PGC). For you to remux the main movie correctly, you need the m2v of the merged main movie only VOBs. Starting from scratch, I would be proposing DVD Decrypter for demuxing PGCs into single VOBs (no file splits), DVD Decrypter (off the DVD) http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83566&highlight=subtitles+guide or VobEdit for demuxing elementary streams, ReJig (NTSC)/IfoEdit (PAL) for remuxing the main movie, and VobEdit for joining VOBs, and IfoEdit/PgcEdit for correcting sectors.

BTW, I don't really do new subtitles inserting and your questions are sort of putting this thread's subject on the off-topic side.
