First of all I am backing up my DVD's using this guide here (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/cce-advanced.htm) Also, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but oh well. I am trying to back up Alias Season 3 using this guide, however once I used dvddecrypter to get the vob files onto the hdd i came across a problem. . . the vob structure which looks like this.
VIDEO_TS.BUP 16KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 16KB
VIDEO_TS.VOB 1,732kb
VTS_01_0.BUP 44kb
VTS_01_0.IFO 44KB
VTS_01_0.VOB 171,130KB
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,983KB
VTS_01_2.VOB 813,576KB
VTS_02_0.BUP 10KB
VTS_02_0.IFO 10KB
VTS_02_0.VOB 82KB
VTS_02_1.VOB 1,048,983KB
VTS_02_2.VOB 1,048,983KB
VTS_02_3.VOB 1,048,983KB
VTS_02_4.VOB 1,048,983KB
VTS_02_5.VOB 887,983KB
ect......
Vobs 01_0-2 is part of the movie, but just separate from vobs 02_0-5. Dvd2avi requires that you select the main movie vob and it processes the rest of them. . . however it doesn't seem like it can be done in this case. Can someone give me some direction of how I can go about processes the main movie vobs into something that CCE can recognize?

You need to put DVDDecrypter in IFO mode when you rip the DVD.

When I ripped it in IFO mode, it gave me a vob_02_1 and vob_02_2 which both totalled only 2GB while the whole movie is 7GB. Is there something I am doing wrong(setting other than IFo mode) or am i supposed to then do something with the output?

When using IFO mode, you can only select a single Program Chain (PGC), and a single Angle within that PGC, though usually there is only Angle 1.
I assume the disc you are working with has multiple episodes in multiple PGCs.
By default, DVD Decrypter will select Angle 1 of the longest PGC it finds on the disc. If there are multiple PGCs with the same long length, it will select the first it finds.
You may select any Angle of any PGC on the disc.
As I see it, you have several choices: Select each episode separately for ripping and encoding
Select a different disc, such as a movie DVD.
Select a different guide, as this one is designed for a single PGC. For more information on DVD structures, see www.doom9.org/dvd-structure.htm.

Do you or anyone else know of such a guide for ripping a tv episode dvd9 --> dvd5?

I have seen guides for doing this using dvdshrink, but I am looking to make as good of a quality copy as possible. A guide preferrably similar to using cce and dvdmaestro to make up regular movies.

Not really sure where this thread would be best placed but as it's not DVD2AVI-related I moved it here...

my suggestion (if you really want to do it manually)
rip each episode as it's own PGC (to a seperate folder)
depending on the audio files, and the amount of episodes, calculate the bitrate you can use for each episode
encode each of them, as if it was a 'normal' movie
reauthor using your favourite authoring app - with menu, if you want, without, if you don't :)

How in the heck would you go about calculating the bitrate if you have 4 episodes to re-encode separately?!

for bitrate calculations you can check out Fit2Disc (http://shh.sysh.de/fit2disc.html) by shh, although it requires a donation to obtain the download.
there is also a bitrate calculator included in DIF4U.
you could also work it out manually using the method outlined by Trilight in his guides : http://dvdguides.trilight.net/
however, although i applaud you on trying to do this manually, i would highly recommend you look at:
DoitFast4U, BatchCCEWS & ScenAid Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=66)
or the DVD Rebuilder Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=75)
for a more automated method that utilises CCE.
cheers
