isn't it a bit too colorful?
I'm a guy who likes the windows standard look and am generally very unhappy with tendencies to skin everything. There are design guidelines for a reason.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way.. nothing against you, I feel the same way about every program that doesn't adhere to Microsoft's design guidelines.

I would like to see the standard Windows Interface as well :)

I like the design of the interface but like a option of the Windows grey colour instead of the blue.
I don't mind coloured skins as long as it has the orginal colours as an option.

Version 0.65a will have a "standard" option.

That's a great news.
For me it's to colorful too.

I think the new design looks great. It keeps the same easy to use layout and improves improves upon the color and fonts. It's not such a radical change that you can't figure out where things are.
A few different options would probably be a good idea, and there is always room for improvement, but this is definitely a big step in the right direction. Thanks for putting your time and effort in to help out jdobbs and make it happen Rockas!

That's good :) I prefer the simple interface. Been having issues w/text and data windows on the current skin version.

Good, this blue is too bright; it hurts the eyes.

I spent the entire weekend working on "skins" -- I hadn't planned on it taking so much time. Still testing.
Cosmetics is one of the biggest challenges for a software developer. If you make it simple -- half of your audience hates it, if you make if fancy -- the other half hates it. My only choice is a compromise (skins).
Hmmm.... with the neck-and-neck race for president here in the U.S. -- maybe we could use a "skins" candidate in next week's election. He could be Kerry some of the time and Bush others... Not sure I can write a complete presidential candidate program in only 7 days though.

how can i donate to this wonderful program?

Check out the help menu of the program or the rebuilder.txt file.

I like the new skin, it looks good... the only problem I have is that my screen resolution is 800 by 600, and the new skin its too big for the screen. Its manageable though, unless I put it in batch mode...then I can't see the Process button unless I change my screen resolution because it is off screen and I cant move it far enough over to make it visible.
Looks great tho :)

The skin stuff is working -- I'm testing it -- you will be able to redefine just about everything. I've included the original format (as in v0.64a) and the Rockas version as example skin definitions. Hopefully some others will get creative as well.

simple or fancy skin both look c00l.
the power of this magic program was beyond anything.
thanks jdobbs!
use 0.64a & 0.65 to backup 27 titles recently, it work fantastic for me.
Only one little thing (it might not a bug of the program, i guess) that seem unnormal for me, it only happen on some studio release dvd & on some old standalone player.(pioneer dv-515, dv-505)
after end of the movie or end of some bonus scene, it will not jump back to the previous menu selection, just stay 'black' in the tv screen, have to press the 'menu' button to return.
i tested the same disc in my new pioneer dv-270-s (which is fully dvd-r compatible) and does'nt had this problem.
i'm not start a new post about this, cause i cant re-produced the same issue in another player.
it could be the media & the player problem.(currently use Prodisc 4X,MCC 02RG20, Pioneer dvr-106,107,108)

My vote goes to DK's Skin_2. I find the standard blue a bit bright for my liking so I look forward to any alternatives. Keep up the great work J.D and everyone involved in every step of this brilliant program.:)

This skin stuff will be released in v0.66 -- which is near release (1-2 days) along with a couple of bug fixes. The ones I've seen here should be easily supportable.
When I release it you will see The "Rockas Original" and "Windows Standard" as always listed in the Skins Menu. DVD-RB will automatically create a "Skins" directory in the application path (where you have DVD-RB installed) and create those two skins if they don't exist at startup. You can use the skins definitions for those two to see how to create other skins (text editable files).

unfortunately I do not have any experience in interface design or skin design, although I have completed a 4 year graphic design degree. I beleive that once this app will be completed and includes all features such as individual bitrate settings, RB-Farm might get integrated...
I think this will be alot of settings and information to see, I think possibly a tabbed interface with main chategories might be helpfull to keep it organized and user friendly.
I also beleive that the interface design ( not to mention the coding and bug crushing ) should be much more important at this stage then the skin designs. Although I defenately understand that a break might be due.
Whatever you decide to do Jdobbs, I apreciate all your hard work and hope to see alot more of it.
Please PM me or repost here if i can be of any help to you.

since jdoobs didn't waste any of his time on skindesign, i think we can rest asured :)
i personally wouldn't be any help when it comes to coding, but maybe the gfx area needs a hand ;)

please do not missunderstand this post, jdobbs is free to work on whatever he wants, whenever he wants and i am not saying he should not waste his time with it, just making things clear.
@jdobbs: thanks for all your hard work, you have really accomplished something that I personally and many others have been dreaming about. I have a great vision for this app and it looks like its going to be the KING of DVD backup apps in all aspects.
Thank u !

i wonder if the *encode*-buttons could somehow be changed (colour/looks/or even placement)?
jdobbs
31st October 2004, 01:15
Yes. The .Txt file has a definition for each of them. You can change the color and position on all -- on most you can use them as a "click" area rather than a button (and draw a button on the background). If you look at the "Windows Standard.txt" file in the skins directory it has a couple of comment lines that tells you what the values mean. The "Scale" value allows you to set your own scale (e.g. 0 - 1000) in each of the horizontal and vertical directions.
There is virtually no limit to what you can do. You can even add text at locations you'd like, in the color you want, with the TextXX= command.

Rockas,
Thanks a lot for your work of collecting and making available to everybody the new Skins posted by many nice guys.
Some of the skins have a very good looking, and it's really useful to be able to use them as a funny alternative to the classic one(s).
Cheers

I don't know how to create a skin but it sure would be nice to have a short, wide one that would position under the CCE encoding window and let you monitor the progress without having to constantly move things around. Wish I knew how to do it myself because that would be the 1st thing I would try. CCE wants to stay right in the center of the screen and even if you move it when it switches to the next encode.......jumps right back
