Xvid on Standalone

Hi as someone who is fed up converting xvid to svcd and divx to svcd i bought a umax yamada 6100 dvd and divx player. But am unsure of what to do to play this format is there an authoring procedure to make this format play? i tried one cd just burning using nero is iso/udf format one xvid played and jumped the audio the other did not play at all. Have i wasted money on a new dvd player??

XviD, not being DivX is not exactly the same.

To increase the chances of playing back XviD on a DivX Device:

Do not use GMC and do not use QPel. It would also be recommended to set your maximum consecutive B-Frames to 1.

...do not use ultra-high bitrates (at least until xvid 1.1 with VBV buffer), do not use QPEL, do not use GMC, use MP3 (suggested choice) or AC3 (only if you know HOW to mux it) audio and AVI container, do not use custom quantization matrices with INTER frame matrix that have values, or at least that start (the value in the upper left corner) with a value, lower than "16".
...if you're going to use 1 max cons. Bframe (suggested choice) select packet bitstream. If you're going to use 2 max cons. Bframes uncheck packet bitstream... in any case do not use more than 2 max cons. Bframes.

Did You ever try to capture in realtime using xvid?
If You do not have much noise in your source that might be worth trying.

These are my settings on an AthlonXP 2000+:

default settings except:
BVOPs off or 1 (because of playing back on DVD-player)
adaptive Quant is on (don't know if it makes sense, wanna save some bytes)
chroma optimizer enabled
MSP=5 ; VHQ=0 (because of my too slow CPU: AthlonXP 2000+)
Turbo-Mode is on when using B-VOPs
Min I/P/B-Quant is 2

With the yamada-Player (ESS-chipset) You can use more than 1 BVOP
if Your CPU is strong enough. Try it out, play it back and post your opinion. You can precrop black borders by using f.e. VirtualVCR with its crop-filter and a denoiser-filter like dnr.ax shipped with ATV2000 or the better but more CPU-hungry ffdshow.ax

I dont know "exactly" what is the best interleave for audio (read: how to mux audio) coz my modded xbox eats everything you throw at it, but i can point you to the Gordian Knot development forum. There were long discussions there...

I've been interleaving mp3 audio at 14 frames. I read somewhere that having too small an interleave with mp3 and avi can make the sync drift.

If you're encoding Xvid for standalone, I can highly suggest AutoGK. I know it's not very geeky to know which options you're getting, but if you want the easy answer.. Don't forget the ESS option if you're encoding for an ESS chip! I've been using this solution with a 100% success rate for quite a while now on my 642, single disc XVID encode w/ 128kbit VBR mp3, just burn the avi in data mode to a cd. Call it a day. Work on your next project. Carve a pumpkin. :)
