View Full Version : DVD-RB 0.65 Output Bug ?

Hi jdobbs,
after the installation of the brand new version 0.65 i started to encode a multiangle movie. All settings the same as in v0.64a.
The RB stoped the rebuilding phase with a message that there is nothing to do, because there are no files.
The Problem was: there are only 4 files (item.ecl, REBUILDER.ECL, REBUILDER.INF, V01.D2V) in the working directory and nothing more??
I found all other files in the DVD-RB root dir but not in the workdir !?
After copying everything in the work dir and starting again the rebuild it works fine and the amazing result was in the output dir.
btw: the size of the result was just 4042MB (or 4.239.917.056 bytes instead of 4.700.000.000 bytes) using CCE 2.67, VBR, 3 passes and CCETargetSectors=2260000?!
You did a great job with this version!!

exactly the same thing happened to me. trying to encode a multiangle movie. used same settings as before. encoding process went fine, but when the rebuilding phase started it gave me the same message.
edealer:
glad i read your post because i wouldnt have thought to look in the root directory for the rest of the files. but there they were.

More tests showed, that only "Troy" causes the effect.
With "Matrix Part1" all files are written in the correct directory, without any changes in the settings?!

I tested the R1 version of Mickey Mouse In Living Color (disc 1) which has interleaved video and BOV. Output files totalled a 3.69 gigabytes only. The original is a tad over 7 gigabytes.

I too have this problem. It is Jackie Brown R1, special edition.
I configured RB from scratch (meaning no rebuilder.ini) and made sure to set up everything the same as I had it with .64a. The first time I tried to prepare phase, it put all of the .avs and .flg files into the root folder where RB resides instead of the working directory that I specified.
Before reading this thread, I went ahead and deleted my rebuilder.ini, and re-configured everything again. This time, it put all of the .avs and .flg files into my CCE directory (which coincidentally, is the last path that I configured in rebuilder).
I have verified that the path to my working directory is correct in my rebuilder.ini, and I made sure that my path did not have any spaces in it to eliminate that as the problem.
Thus far, this is the only disc that I have tried with .65. It has a small amount of ILVU in the beginning.

Do you have the "Enable Output Directory" option checked? Anything listed in the output directory?

I tried it first with "enable output directory" enabled and received this problem. I then unchecked 'enable output directory' for troubleshooting purposes. Still same issue. After re-configuring RB the second time, I left this unchecked, and therefore, unable to put any path in the box.

Just an addition:
For testing, I once again deleted my rebuilder.ini and setup everything from scratch. This time, the path to my dgindex.dll was the last path I configured when setting up RB. Sure enough, this is where it put all of the .avs and .flg files after preperation, regardless of path in the working directory field. Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more information.

I too am having the same problems, with Jackie Brown R1 Special Edition. I have tried deleting the ini file and starting rebuilder from scratch. It puts all the files in the folder with the Rebuilder executable for me. Here is my rebuilder.ini:
[Options]
CCE=1
EncoderMinimized=1
AdditionalOutput=1
OneClick=1
[Paths]
CCEBasic=C:\Documents and Settings\fadedstatic\Desktop\DVD Utilities\EdCCE 1.81\EclCCE.exe
CCE250=C:\Documents and Settings\fadedstatic\Desktop\DVD Utilities\EdCCE 1.81\EclCCE.exe
CCENEW=C:\Documents and Settings\fadedstatic\Desktop\DVD Utilities\EdCCE 1.81\EclCCE.exe
MPEG2DEC=C:\Documents and Settings\fadedstatic\Desktop\DVD Utilities\MPEG2Dec3dg.dll
DECOMB=C:\Documents and Settings\fadedstatic\Desktop\DVD Utilities\Decomb521.dll
Source=H:\VIDEO_TS\
Working=G:\DVD\
Output=G:\DVD\
[CCEOptions]
VBR_bias=5
Quality_prec=16
eclPasses=4
I hope this helps.

Could someone please check and see if you can:
1. Set a specific repeatable set of steps that always causes it to happen.
2. Repeat it with those steps in v0.64a?
This is throwing me for a loop. I can't seem to repeat it, and also can't see how it could happen.

Okay, one thing I found: The working path is not disabled (frozen out) while processing to prevent it from being changed while processing. Are you sure you didn't change the pointer to the working path while processing was being done?

I set it up to use an output directory before I even start the entire process. However, I find that while some go to a folder on my G:\ drive, some still go to the directory where DVD-RB is located. I have reproduced this 3 or 4 times, and because I am limited on space on the first and second drive, I get an error message like, "Insufficient Disk Space".
This is the first problem i've really had with this great program, so keep up the good work.
P.S. - I'll attempt with .64a soon.
Peace
Rob

I seem to have fixed it by disabling the output directory, It has put all the files into the proper working directory and no files are present in the directory with RB. I'm not sure why that would have caused it, but maybe jdobbs can explain that :).
Again great work.
Peace

That problem only comes up with specific DVDs!
Same settings but other DVD -> no Problem.

This is throwing me for a loop. I can't seem to repeat it, and also can't see how it could happen.
1. Unzip and run rebuilder.exe
2. Configure RB to use the proper version of CCE
3. Configure RB to use 3 passes
4. Configure path to ECLCCE
5. Configure path to decoder (dgindex.dll)
6. Click on Browse button to select source path
7. Click on Browse button to select working directory
8. Click prepare
As you can see, output path was never even touched. I have followed these exact same procedures with .64a and did not get this problem (obviously a different movie, as jackie brown has ILVU).

Haven't touched anything after I click the prepare button. I hit prepare, sit and wait for it to finish, then check my working directory which only contains the following files: rebuilder.ecl, rebuilder.inf, and v01.d2v
After following my above listed steps and then searching my hard drive, I find all of the .avs and .flg files in the same folder that contains my decoder, dgindex.dll.
As the edealer stated, it could very well happen with specific dvd's...I haven't had the time to test any others with .65.

@cyberbob25
Do you have the output directory enabled?
cyberbob25
24th October 2004, 02:36
No. The steps I listed were the exact steps I took...no less, no more. Never enabled output directory in this case.
Can't even think of what it might be. Previously to the steps that I listed above, I had configured the path to ECLCCE last, and that is where it ended up putting my .avs and .flg files. Don't know if that helps or not.
Thanks again.

I got all .avs and .flg files in the avisynth plugins folder ?!
with or without output folder enabled.
the movie is troy rc2.

i tried several things trying to back up dead poets society in rb v65. i have dgdecode.dll located in avisynth2.5/plugin folder and
pointed to in rb. only the rb files are in the dvdrb folder. the working path goes to a seperate folder. cce basic (not trial) is
pointed to correctly. i tried all different kinds of ways to make this work, but it wouldnt.
the cce window that opens on the first pass read:
save: V01000100003002.vaf
the cce window on the second pass read:
save: V01000100003002.m2v
after trying everything else, i disabled the output path option and pointed to the working path. closed, then restarted rb and the
output path became the same as the working path, only grayed out. checked ini file and previous output path was saved. all avs and flg files then went in the rb folder.
i kept the output path disabled, deleted the ini file, re-started rb. reset everything as before and no output path was shown. avs and flg files then went in avisynth/plugin folder with dgdecode.dll.
tried a non-multiangle backup with same settings as ive been using, and it worked great. all files went in the working path folder.

The logical conclusion is that when opening the files, no path is provided. That way the last path used would be the location where the files went. This seems to be consistent with what I've heard. But from what I hear it seems that the "Working Directory" listed on the screen is correct throughout. Does everyone agree that it only happens on interleaved sources?
The eDealer

it only happens on interleaved sources
I can agree.
lamster
24th October 2004, 16:49
I've only seen it on an interleaved source (but I've only seen it once, and I've only been testing ILVU / multi-angle backups since I received 0.65).
jacota
24th October 2004, 17:18
i agree. it happens only on interleaved sources.
but for me, the only files that go in the working directory folder are "item.ecl, REBUILDER.ECL, REBUILDER.INF, V01.D2V". the rest go either in the rb folder or the avisynth/plugin folder, depending on whether or not i start from scratch.
mikegun
24th October 2004, 18:14
I can confirm that too.
edit:
the final result of backing up troy with 0.65 was 3.89GB
edit 2:
after removing the ILVUs with dvdremake, all files are in the working directory

Could you check and see if it acts differently if "Status Logging" is turned on/off?
Thanks.

Tested Troy (RC2) with "Status Logging" turned on/off and activated output path -> files are not in the output folder, they are in the RB root folder.

It doesn't act differently !
I tried RB 0.65 with the output of DVDRemake (Troy RC2). The whole RB process worked fine but the output doesn't play correct.
The ILVU part wasn't there at all and the movie did freeze right at the beginning, sound was missing too.

Further tests (Troy (RC2)):
After the back and forth (1.off->problem, default, 2.on->problem) with "Status Logging" turned on/off everything now is written into the correct folder when i switch it back to default(3.off-> no problem)?! :confused:
The problem is solved for me, thanks jdobbs. :)

I've tried toggling status logging on and off just as edealer stated, but this did not work for me. I tried toggling it on and off about 4 times, and I haven't experienced any change in behavior.

I think I may have found something. Can you confirm for me that each time this happens the first cell in the problematic VTS is interleaved?
jdobbs
27th October 2004, 00:06
I think that was it. I found an error in which the output files could be closed and then reopened and the output path was saved. The ILVU code was preventing output of AVS, FLG, etc. as it should during scanning of ILVU sources -- but it had also prevented the saving of the pathname. On reopen (when encountering the next non ILVU cell) it assumed the path had been saved -- and it opened the output files with a blank path ---> causing it to write to whatever directory was the last to have been accessed...
jacota
27th October 2004, 05:44
also tried toggling status logging on and off but the files continued to go into rb folder. this didnt work for me.
jdobbs
27th October 2004, 10:44
It depends on the timing. If the status file gets opened just before the ILUV section is hit -- it will define the directory for output. You should get a fix sent to you either today or tomorrow.
