View Full Version : Major AV Sync on certain dvds

Ok, I recently ripped a few dvds I own to convert them to AVI for backing them up. The dvds included Ghostbusters, Donnie Darko, Texas Chainsaw Massacre [new version], and The Cell.

I ripped the dvds with DVD decrypter in IFO mode with the selected audio and video that I wanted and then combined the VOBS with VOB merge. Then I used VirtualDubMod to encode the vobs to AVI.

The codecs I used were:
Xvid - 900kbps
Lame MP3 128 kbps.

Now to the problem. Ghostbusters turned out perfect. AV is fine and in sync. However, Donnie Darko, The Cell, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were completely out of sync. I've tried using different codecs and a ton of different encoding programs. I even tried a few direct DVD to AVI programs. None of them worked.

Ohh and yes the VOB was in sync before the encoding processes.

Sorry if this was a long post, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible to help out anyone who might be helping me.

Thanks for any replies/help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum-

Don't get the audio from DVD Decrypter, and there's no need to join the vobs. After you have the separate vob files, create a .d2v project file in DGIndex (getting the audio at the same time), and then feed that into the encoder using an AviSynth Script (.avs). You can do this through Gordian Knot, or encode directly. Here are some XviD guides:

http://www.doom9.org/xvid-guides.htm

For the greatest ease of use, Auto Gordian Knot is the way to go. For a slightly more hands on method, Gordian Knot might do. And for the greatest amount of flexibility, use Gordian Knot for cropping/resizing/.avs creation/getting the bitrate, then use VDubMod for encoding, and BeSweet/HeadAC3he for the audio conversion, unless you're just using the AC3. You can mux during the encoding or afterwards.

Thank you so much. I'll go through the guide and such tomorrow and test it out.

Thanks a lot. It worked and now all the AV is in sync and such.

Huzzah.
