View Full Version : Problems With NTSC DTS to PAL DTS

Hi, thanks for reading this thread.
I have a NTSC DVD that I am converting into PAL.
I have converted the Video, 5.1 AC3 and the subtitles. (These are all in sync)
My problems are with the DTS Track.
I split and changed the framerate of the DTS track using - azidts -manualch -core( -input D:\DVD2DVD\Movie2\Audio\dts1.dts -output D:\DVD2DVD\Movie2\Audio\dts1wav.wav -6ch ) -ota( -r 23976 25000)
This gave me 6 mono wave files of EXACTLY the same length as the Video.
I then used Surcode DTS Version 1.0.21 to create a DTS track at 768kbs using the 6 wave files. The DTS was again EXACTLY the same length as the Video.
I imported the DTS track in to DVDMaestro with no problems and then dropped it on to audio track 2 - the track said it was (5Chan) it should be (6Chan)!!! The DTS track is also out of sync i.e. It Starts and finishes approximately 8 after the Video.
I imported one of the wave files to see what would happen and it started and finished 13 seconds after the Video. BUT if I use AC3enc and make the waves into an AC3 track it is EXACTLY in sync. So i don't think my problem is with the waves.
So to recap -
1. Why does DVDMaestro report that the DTS is (5Chan) and not (6Chan) as expected?
2. Why does the DTS start and finish 8 seconds late?
3. Can I do something to correct the 8 second offset?
4. Should I encode the DTS using a different method to achieve a (6Chan) track that is in sync?
I'd appreciate any help you can give

I personally use besweet for time correction and output to 6 waves and Softencode to produce the AC3 stream, it sound like it`s your encoder that`s the problem, plus if you haven`t enabled the LFE channel in you encoder you`ll get 5 rather than 5.1 (6 channels).
You can use AC3DelayCorrector to remove the start of the track or add silence.

Maestro will show 5ch for DTS for some odd reason, don't worry about that.

I thought i would post a reply here as i solved my problems.
1. I split and changed the framerate of the DTS track using - azidts -manualch -core( -input D:\DVD2DVD\Movie2\Audio\dts1.dts -output D:\DVD2DVD\Movie2\Audio\dts1wav.wav -6ch ) -ota( -r 23976 25000)
2. I then used Surcode DTS Version 1.0.21 to create a DTS track at 768kbs using the 6 wave files. The DTS was again EXACTLY the same length as the Video.
The problem 1 was when i dropped it into dvdmaestro, it reported that it was 5ch. As boulder said don't worry about it. it is a dvdmaestro bug and can be ignored.
Problem 2 was that when the audio was dropped onto the timeline it started and finished 8 seconds late. I tried to find the cause of this (i guessed the audio and video timecodes were not in sync) for about 2 weeks and finally gave up. I finally found a way to fix it -
drag the audio to the left and you can get it to start and finish anywhere you like. I cant believe how simple the solution was, iam embarassed :-)
i guess if i had posted in the authoring section they might have been able to help.

Yeah, it's a bit odd that you can drop the video on the timeline and it will snap directly to the beginning, but the audio will stay wherever you drop it:rolleyes:

I can confirm that 5 channel thing on DVDMaestro, also I often have great difficulties with DTS files out of sync -> last time a played arround with DVD stuff I used rejig for demuxing (did fine job for me and gives very accurat results); for authoring I meanwhile stick to DVDLab(Pro) -> itīs a new development not like DVDMaestro (2001) and offers a lot more possibilities (f.e. 24bit 1536Kbit/s on DTS -> Maestro only supports 16bit768Kbit/s and so on.....).
Another thing was the DTS track - I took the original track one-by-one, the DTS track was a little shorter (~1% over all) as the MV2/AC3 tracks, but dragedīnīdrop to the sound panel it plays perfect synchron.
BTW: whatīs the use of your project
almost all TVs (in the past ~8 years) are able to show PAL and NTSC stuff. Are you sure this transcoding was necessary?

Almost all but not all. I have a 5-year-old TV that doesn't support NTSC or the NTSC->PAL stuff my DVD player can output. They only produce a blinking black-and-white video no matter what.

Hi Guys,
Iīve got a problem, too, if I want to convert my dts-file from ntsc into pal.
There occurs the error as stated in the attached file.
Iīve tried to install all filters and encoders, but has someone an idea what to do?
Thanks

P.S.: BTW ATM I dontīt know, if you can see the attachment...
EDIT: Where is that attachment, the server says, that there is one uploaded???

A moderator needs to approve it.
What does the error say?

k thanks,
The error says:
CreateFilter: Failed to create filter! hr=0x80040154
DSshowErr: Failed(hr=0x80040154) in CreateFilter(CLSID_DTSSource, &pReader)
Iīve tried to demux the file with both DVDDecrypter and Vobedit, and the error is the same.

At what point does that error occur?
Do you have dtssource.ax registered?
Do you have WinDVD with DTS support installed?

The Error occurs at the very beginning!!!
the DTSsource.ax, I copied it into the azidts-folder...seems this isnīt o.k.
How can I register it?
Edit: I found the answer in this forum!!! Seeing if this solves the problem...

Copy it to your Windows\System32 folder. Then type regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dtssource.ax .

Hi Guys,
meanwhile, somehow I managed what I wanted to do. :D
I donīt know, what the error above was, but it had to do with the second filter available for dts. The avidts-filter. I registered that one, too, et voilā...everything was working...
In the next step I used surcode DVD to reencode the sound to dts. Took some time, till I found out, that the bitrate-setting doesnīt work correctly. It always encodes the sound with 1536 bit, doesnīt matter what you choose. Therefore you have to save your file in the dts compact cpt format. Then everything is o.k.
For authoring, I used rejig, a fascinating little dvd-author program, the author did a great job here. :thanks:
So I hope that this post helps some of you in the future, who might have the same problem.
Greetings
