Lately I can capture only 20 secs of video before Premeir loses communication

I have been capturing with Premeir Pro 7.0 with the same camera (Canon GL2) for over a year and recently i can only capture about 20 sec minute of video and the capture crashes and gives several errors regarding cant read timecode, recorder error, connection lost and recorder driver problems. I don't remember the exact error but I tried to summarize.
After the crash, i still have device control with PPro but i can't see any video on the capture screen unless i reboot. After rebooting and attemting to capture again, I end up getting about 20 seconds of captured video followed by another capture failure.
I'm using the panasonic DV codec. I recently installed windows media 10 and also SP2. I think the probles started after windown media 10 but I can remember.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to solve my problems?

How are you capturing> Firewire (which type), USB 2, capture card?

I have firewire on the motherboard. Maybe I should get a PCI firewire card? Do you recommend any cards?

Maybe the drivers for the onboard firewire connection don't work well with SP2?

I'm also stuck to SP1 because of Premiere Pro and my soundcard - with SP2 I get crackling noises in the audio (only in Premiere Pro!)
