Just in case someone, somewhere ever has a similar problem.
Some weeks ago, I had bought a Plextor PX-708UF (http://www.plextor.com/english/products/708uf.html). It is an external dvd+/-rw USB 2.0 unit.
My OS is Windows XP Pro SP1 patched to the brim. 9 times out of 10, when I plugged the unit into my ThinkPad, I got a bluescreen of death. The ThinkPad automatically rebooted. Though, I was able to read the error message:
Stop 0x0000007F (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_ukdq.asp)
Supposedly, it is linked with a driver or hardware problem.
Well, to make a long story short (I know, it is already terribly too long ;) ), I fixed the problem by removing the IBM DLA and IBM RecordNow softwares. I think they are from Veritas. Anyway... problem fixed!
BTW.. this unit is a real gem! The only problem I see with it is the amount of noise it generates. Though, I can turn it off when I don't need it. If I had to do it again, I would buy the same thing!
