I open an RM file that I got from a friend, he encoded a small home movie and for some reason he likes to use Real. Its about 30mb and when I enable the Media Player Classic Filters for Real files, this is the error I get

If I disable the filter in MPC, i get audio but no sound.

biCompression: RV10

That's very old RV codec. Go in FFDShow, and enable RV10 and RV20. :)

Hi, Note that RV10 = RV1.0, not RealVideo 10 ...

If you install RealPlayer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68399), it can of course play the file, and I think that will also enable MPC to play it.

I wonder why he thought it was Real, I thought it was RM too, because of the extension and some of them played on MPC.

It is real, but an older codec. Players look at the headers, the extension is just to launch that file with that software :)

ok I downloaded and installed ffdshow,

1] I start the app and in the Codecs Section, I set RV10/20 to libavcodec(the other option is disabled)
I close the app
Open the file in MPC and still no picture, only sound.
Open the filters section of MPC and then add the ffdshow MPEG4 filter in overrides.
No change

2] Under MPC-->Options-->Formats I then set the Real Media files to Real Media instead of DirectShow
I remove all Overrides, and disable the Built In Filter for Real Media Files
File works, but after a few minutes, it hangs, MPC crashes.

3] Under MPC-->Options-->Formats I then set the Real Media files to DirectShow
I remove all Overrides, and enable the Built In Filter for Real Media Files
File works, but after a few minutes, it hangs, MPC crashes.

4] Under MPC-->Options-->Formats I then set the Real Media files to Real Media instead of DirectShow
I add ffdshow Overrides, and disable the Built In Filter for Real Media Files
File works, after a while the vid stops, but audio continues, then after I seek ahead it works for some time again, but again vid stops and audio hangs.

ALL TIMES, OUTPUT FOR REAL FILES in MPC IS SET TO SYSTEM DEFAULT

I'm thinking of converting them to AVI, simply because this is getting too much and because my relative has left the country, he came for a holiday. So all I got are the RAM and RM files, of which only a few give me probs.
