The dvd video that i'm trying to backup is only 4.1 GB, but after i rip the files to my hard drive, compress them, and then try to rip them, i keep getting a pop-up that says the disc is too big to burn - 8.1 GB are present, but only 4.4 GB are available on the blank disc. How can it be saying that there are 8.1 GB when the original dvd itself was only 4.1?? This 8.1 GB warning pops up regardless if i try to burn all 4 .VOB files or just try to burn 1 of them. i'm using DVDBackup to rip, DVD2One to compress, and Toast to burn on a mac. (ps, i've tried ripping with decryption and then trying to burn without compressing, same result)

Try using DVDShrink (http://www.dvdshrink.info) and post back.

if the original disc is only 4.1 megs, why don't you use dvdecrypter to do a dvd 5 backup?
