I am having problems lately with printable dvds. I'm backing up my movies, but cannot successfuly back up with a printable label. I can make a good back up with a "normal" silver label dvd. However, every time I use a printable label, I get through the burn ok, but I have errors playing it. It freezes about 3/4 of the way through. So far, I've only used Memorex printables (both 4x and 8x) with no success. I have a Plextor PX-708 8x burner with win xp. My system exceeds all of the system requirements. Is there anything different about burning with a printable dvd? Please help. Thanx.

Check what media type(code) the silver and printable are. Many apps can do this, DvdDecrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download)(free) in write mode can do it.
.
I bet the two will be different, I would just use a different printable media, or slow my burn speed.
.
You might also want to check and see if an upgraded firmware is available.

pls check your media compatibility over at www.dvdrhelp.com
i have the feeling that this is a compatibility issue between your media and your burner! (which unfortunately are still pretty common) - also, memorex do not have the best reputation - which doesn't mean much of course...

After extensive research with compatibility, and codes, it turns out that the Memorex disks I was using (cmc mag-f01)are generaly not compatable with my burner, and are troublesome with many other burners as well. I thought that buying a "brand name" was more important than who actually made them. WRONG! Thank you for steering me in the right direction.
PS. I still have no idea why the Memorex silver tops worked fine, but the Memorex white tops didn't. They had identical codes. Go figure.

probably cheap manufacturing... so the weight isn't totally centered... anyway, that's just a guess... why brands like memorex still aren't able to sell broadly functional media is beyond me...
