BeAll DVD-R Silver Printable User, Backup cannot be played after certain period

I want to share my problem with all BeALL 4X DVD-R Printable Media user, and please re-play your backup dvd!
*play it in your standalone dvd player, not your pc, it will play fine in pc dvd-rom drive, but not in standalone dvd player.

i'm using BeAll 4X DVD-R Silver Printable from meritline
i order 500 from meritline 2 month ago.
i rarely re-watch my dvd after i've burn, some i just watch once after i burned it, and they play ithout problem, today i plan to re-watch some of my backup, problem come, bad blocking (pixel everywhere) in the menu selection, some happen in the movie, some disc my standalone just show cannot be play, before that it play without a single problem, for christ sake!

i havent check all yet, but i got about 100 backup got the same issue, oh F!

I think BeAll should be one of the best media in the market, i dont what happen to all my BeAll media, and i still waiting another shipment that i order last week from meritline...arrrr....

if anyone use the same media and bought in last 2 month, you better re-play you backup.

Media : BeAll 4X Silver Printable (G40001)
Burner : Pioneer DVR-107D & DVR-106D
Software : Using Nero Version 6
Printer : Canon i865 (Use for Disc Printing, Using original canon ink):(

that's too bad.

i can't play any of my backups in standalones... with episodic discs, it usually glitches out at about halfway through episode 3 of 4.

try other standalones, as i'm willing to bet it's the standalone simply being finicky about the disc. the format is relatively immature, remember (look how long it took for CD players to be able to handle CD-Rs, considering the long history of CD technology).

so long as the disc is readable in your PC's drive, at least the data will be safe (that, after all is what backup is for). in the meantime you can either wait for the media to get better, wait for the players to get more robust, or get a good TV out for your PC :)

so long as the data is readable, you can always re-burn them to something your standalone can read, but i think you'll go through a lot of discs that way. i've not yet found a player/media combo that works flawlessly. shit, some standalones can't even play commercially pressed discs that are 100% standard compliant (helloooo, Sony corporation. lots of their players will only play sony brand pressed discs without glitching, which is a pain in the butt for DVD publishers because these players are very common, and to avoid people returning perfectly good DVDs, they have to print on sony discs).

as far as disc longevity goes, that's a tough one. one rule-of-thumb that i've found is to check the little dribble of resin that goes on the outer radius of the disc to make the layers airtight. most discs fail because air has got in the sides and started to corrode the recording layer - so if the resin is intact there's a better chance your disc will last longer. hold it up to the light and look very closely around the edge, and you'll see a trail of glue. it's usually quite wobbly, and probably wont cover the join at all times (though it should).

I just test 20 of my backup using BeAll 4X DVD-R silver printable media, that i havent print the label on top the disc, all can't be play!!!
So is not the top printing cause this problem,
is it my burner problem ?, nero problem ???
i have some old backup using Ritek G04, they all play without problem.
what happening? please help!

i burn them all at 4X

they all burned fine, play fine at first time after burn.
and after short period (maybe 1 or 2 weeks) they not working anymore,
my pioneer dv-515,505 both said 'cannot be played' or not showing anything after the disc was insert.

i've test and confirm my 200 backup, all not working, but they worked at the first play (after burn process successful),(i test every disc after final burn)

i test some disc i burned few day ago, they play in my standalone but start showing bad blocking, pixelness, not even in the movie, but in the dvd navigation menu. i guess they will not playable after 1 or 2 weeks. what the H. is going with this media?
burn fine, play fine after burned, after few days or a week or 2, they cant be play anymore!?

my first patch order was 200pack from meritline with no problem.(i've test it)
second order was 500pack, i start seeing the problem now, i still have 150 left, should i use them? will they be the same problem?
AND..i still got 500pack already order and waiting to arrive,
Will there being the same?

this thing are so annoying, i think i've backup everything perfect,
now they all rubish! emmm....

Yes, I can understand your frustration because I have experience the same with normal BeAll 4x DVD-R. I have ckecked 2 or 3 burning applications and different speeds with 2 burners Nec2510A + Pioneer 105 with all the same results = rubbish.

Basically, these DVD are 'ageing' within one week, I suppose it has to do with oxidation degradation or something similar. I bought them in the believe that it was an excellent brand but Samsung/BeAll must have had a serious Quality Incident during recent productions.

Anyway, I believe that you can kiss them goodbye, you can throw them away. Luckily for me, I am not doing that much backups and I am not watching them directly so I realized quickly the problem (I have 3 backups barely readable). But I can throw the rest of my spindle that is for sure.

I have now switched to Ritek G05, there are perfect for me, readable even on very picky DVD players.

Well, sorry for your loss :(

Well, personally I would return them (if you can).
500 discs... sounds like a lot with a possible associated risk that these would ultimately end in your bin. I cannot trust BeAll anymore (but that's me).

yeah, its not that easy for me to return it to meritline, cause i'm not live in the U.S.
i bought it through my cousin and she send it to me.

i'll not buy BeAll anymore.
and meritline seem stop or out of stock of beall 4X DVD-R silver printable, i rememberer after few days of my order, they disappear from meritline website.

Exactly the same with my Beall's (or better BeGones).
Checking the quality directly after the burns told me
excelent results, but after only few days/weeks the
data become corrupt, beginning from both edges of the disc!
What I read until now (cdfreaks pages) only certain beall media
is infected, namly the "4x -R" fraction, undependend of printable
or not).

i am a little pissed at the dreadful quality of DVD-R media. these discs are clearly not spec-compliant, and thus they are being misrepresented. the company could be done for that, and i hope it stings them like it stung everyone who's lost important data as a result of them.

maybe they're running a trial of disposable DVD-Rs.

i have a 50-pack of alpha-tec (product code BM251, whatever that means) that only really read satisfactorily on the drive they were burnt on. but the good news is the data has lasted longer than a month, so i'm guessing that they'll be okay, so long as i coax my new burner into reading them (takes about 5 insert-read-fail-eject cycles to convince my pioneer 108 to read these discs).

When i find out this BeGones dvd-r problem. i tried to read it in my pc dvd-rom (asus 16x), it still readable only my standalone show not playable. i try to watch some BeGones dvd-r backup revently in the same dvd-rom and it wont read any more, the drive light keep blinking and the disc not being detected.:mad:
Why MeritL. put this media at premium grade? it actually a landfill material,for christ sake.

After try my BeGones dvd-r backup on different player, my result is :
- This landfill dvd-r will play on Pioneer DV270-s (just got mine recently)
- This landfill dvd-r will play on my pioneer dvd-writer (dvr-106/107/108)
- Will not play on most pc dvd-rom.
- some of them will have problem to re-copy back to harddrive.

The last 500 order MeritL. send me was Prodisc dvd-r(MCC02) silver printable, they seems to running out (or finally PUSH it all out for some unlucky guy like me)those should Be Gone disc, and they send me Prodisc instead.
