Deinterlace while capturing

Is deinterlacing while capturing a good idea? Can it be done? I want to capture a file with huffyuv and the cut out the comercials and compress it to Divx. Im doing the capturing part with VirtualVcr and the rest with VirtualDub. The problem is when I want to recompress to divx i have to apply the deinterlace MAP filter, and that means I cant use the fast recompress option on virtualdub. So I was wondering if there is a way to do the deinterlacing in virtualvcr during the capture and then use fast recompress in virtualdub? Thanks for the help

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

Unless you have a lot of excess CPU power, deinterlacing during capture is not recommended. Of course, if you captured at 1/4 D1 resolutions (heights of 288 or 240, rather than heights of 576 or 480), you won't need to deinterlace at all.

You could do the deinterlacing via AviSynth, and still use Fast Recompress during encoding. Instructions are in the Capture Guide.

Thanks for the Help, Ive been reading and I think I still want to capture 640x480 but I would like to try and deinterlace while capping, using virtualvcr, I like virtualvcr because Ive got it all setted up to capture when I tell it to. So I guess what Im asking is, is there a deinterlace filter for virtualvcr, if so where can I get it?

To incorporate de-Interlacing in your live captures, using ver 2.6.9.6252 ...

* settings
* Filters
* [x] use Pre Filtering
* [x] Show All Filters

Now, expand the listbox and scroll all the way down to the bottom of
the list. There, you should see a filter, "iuLAB deinterlace" just
select this by clicking on the ADD button, and then make sure
that the [x] Use Pre Filtering is ticked.

There are a host of other filters, you just have to stop being lazy
and do some scrolling around :)

That should do it for your deinterlaced source.

Actually i dont have that filter anywhere I had already looked at all the filters but I still looked again. Anyways, I also know that there are different deinterklacing methods, and I would like to use, a good deinterlacer, I dont know if this can be done, Ive been using Deinterlace MAP for VirtualDub and I think the results are pretty good, and I thought that maybe since VirtualVcr And Deinterlace Map were created by the same person that I might be able to use this filter?

I don't know. I just check it out on Pure Interlace sources, from my
Antenna source last night, viewing the news, and I must say, that the
quality looked pretty good to me.

Actually, the "iuLAB Deinterlace" filter kept crashing on me, so I
ended up using another one listed just above it.., had something with
a "YUV deinterlace" to it, and as I said above, it was pretty good to
my eyes.

I wish I could post a sample clip for you to test play and compare with
your method(s) but I don't have one that you could use as a gauge in
your test compares :(

Use "cyberlink yuy2 deinterlace" filter in iuvcr or virtualvcr(you can have acces to it by installing trial version of Powervcr 2)
try it!
