View Full Version : select any title(s); chap(s); soundtrack(s); subtitle(s)

I use DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0 in ISO-Read mode to rip dvd's to my hard disk. Afterwards, I use Recode or DVDShrink because I like the quality - but I don't always want to transcode all chapters. InterVideo's DVD Copy 2 will allow the selection of any chapters; not just the begining or end chapters like most transcoders. The downside to DVD Copy 2 is that you must always have the menu too (I don't like menus) plus you only get one subtitle and one audio track.

How can I rip just the titles, chapters, audio tracks, subtitles I want to disk; without anything I don't want and transcode to DVD-5 disks?

Must I learn DVD2SVCD, DVD-RB or "Big-3" to achieve this?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Sincerely,

Have a look at DVDstripper
That will let you strip out any unwanted title etc
just do a search with keyword DVDstrippe or author MackemX
After that use for instance Instantcopy to compress (transcode) it

Thanks jippiejajee. I'll check it out. Will it let me select one or more audio tracks, subtitles, etc. as well? I'll look into it.

Thanks again.

The removal of audio tracks can be done more easily with Instantcopy

Thanks for the replies guys.

2COOL: DVDShrink 3.2.x cannot remove chapters within a title in the following fashion:

Chapters:
---------
Chap 1 - keep
Chap 2 - delete
Chap 3 - keep
Chap 4 - keep
Chap 5 - delete
Chap 6 - keep
Chap 7 - keep
Chap 8 - delete, etc.

with in chapters. InterVideo DVDCopy 2.x *can*, however unlike DVDShrink and Recode, it cannot leave out the menu, include more than one title, or more than one disk. Also with DVDCopy you either have to take one or all audio tracks and all or one subtitles.

I want a program that allows me to inlude one or more titles (from one or more disks ripped to hd and mounted with Daemon Tools) and from within these title(s), select any chapters I want, any one or more audio tracks and any one or more subtitles.

Instead of included unwanted stuff but not pointing to it, I want a program that actually leaves it out without screwing up the navigation (I don't want a menu even - just to be able to chapter jump)

All while matching the transcoding quality of DVDShrink 3.2 or Recode 2, or, even better, CCE SP 2.67 (DVD-RB and DVD2SVCD and Big 3 are too complicated)

Does this mythical program exist? Is there a couple of easy to use tools to accomplish this with DVDShrink?

Any help would be most appreciated - thanks gang.

This looks like a job for VobBlanker! It can blank cells too.

Hi all. :)

webwonk, if you do not want the menus, DVD Shrink "Start/End" can be used to backup any parts of the title.
The only drawback is a very small gap between the resulting titles. ;)

Sounds like we're getting closer :)

ddlooping: I thought Start/End only worked on the ends, not the middle of a title's chapters. I already use it or Recode to remove begining or end titles, but sometimes the first chapter is the opening scene, the second chapter is title sequence (Pulp Fiction) and on.

2COOL: Maybe if I used VobBlanker along with DVDShrink? Would I have to use DVDDecrypter, then VobBlanker then DVDShrink/Recode? I'm not sure of the workflow here.

Again, any help/information is greatly appreciated guys. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

webwonk, "Start/End" can be used to isolate any part of a title.

Let's say you want to compile 3 chapters from a title: #2, #3 and #7.

- Open DVD Shrink and switch to Re-author.
- Drag one instance of the title to the "DVD Structure" pane.
- Use "Start/End" to isolate chapter #2 and #3.
- Drag another instance of the title to the "DVD structure" pane.
- Use "Start/End" to isolate chapter #7.

Done. ;)

This can be done with titles from different discs.
Keep in mind there will be a slight pause during the playback, between chapter #3 and #7.

For a bit more dazzle, DVDShrink can even mix and match chapters from different titles and discs using the same method dlooping just described.

Combine:
Movie A: Title 1: Chapter 2
Movie A: Title 1: Chapter 8
Movie B: Title 3: Chapter 5
Movie C: Title 2: Chapter 7
Movie A: Title 2: Chapter 9

As Ronald says, "Have it your way" ..... or is that the King. :D

Shrink rulez. Best freeware ever!

well, you have a point there. But I already have IC and to behonest to my judgement IC gives a somewhat better quality in transcoding. But for sure DVDshrink is a good choice as well

jippiejajee, have you actually compared IC output to DVD Shrink v3.2 new quality options? ;)

jippiejajee

nope I didn't.
But about a year a go I did the comparison between IC and DVDshrink.
Then I decided to go for IC7, which I still use.
For the tripping I started with IFOedit as IC was buthering the ifo's in a wrong way when deleting titles. After MackemX released DVDstripper I changed to using that for stripping. Until today the combination of DVDstripper and IC7 never let me down.
I learned one lesson in the past years and that is whatever program you use it will cost some time to get it working in the way you want, the so called learning curve. Can be quite time consuming and may costs a few coasters. So when I found an relative easy solution which worked for me I stopped exploring others.
Maybe it is good time now to give the latest version of DVDshrink a try as it may be improved over time.
But what do you think, will it work as a one button solution without the need of spending a lot of time to get it right ?

:D

Well, the new quality options have the advantage of giving the user more options.
The drawback is you then have to choose which option to use. :D

A comparison test you might find of interest (if you're on a fairly fast connection):
http://www.dvdshrink.info/temp/beta/comparative_tests_smooth.html

P.S: if you tried DVD Shrink a year ago it probably was v2.3.
It has greatly improved since. ;)

Hi, as you mentionned Nero Recode,
why not simply use this one to select in the VOBs the chapters, audio, etc you want, and then go directly to MPEG-4...
(option Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital, in Recode 2)
Also NeroVision Express allows simple cut & paste in a project you can export
cheers

Yep!DVDshrink can do this, the only drawback,is u cannot use the
SKIP/NEXT button on your Remote.

Let say u are on chap 1,and u want to Skip to chap3..No Go, u will
hav to sit it out.
No problem going from Chap6 to chap7

Yes, you can. But you need to edit the program chain. Use PgcEdit and use the utility "Enable Navigation Buttons". If this doesn't work, you may need to use 2COOL's chapter skipping guide. (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/previous_chapter/intro.htm)

EDIT: Another idea might be to have each chapter you want to keep as separate titles. Then it would be easy to just skip to the next and previous title (ie chapter) with 2COOL's guide.

EDIT 2: Yet another idea might be to use IfoEdit to create new IFOs. Create it as a single PGC. IfoEdit will create new chapters for you, which you will certainly be able to use the next/prev buttons on your remote.
