I know..... burning with Nero is problem enough... Loaded DVD shrink on the system and did the shrink thing...All went well...Opened Nero and it does not recognize it as a DVD drive..... The only option it lists is as a CD drive..... Bugging the crap out of me.....

OK.. Let me knock out the obvious here.....

A) Yes it is a DVD burner..... In a HP and labeled under system Props as a 400C..

B) Looked at the HP site for new firmware and nothing is listed for a 400C, tried loading the 400I firmware, same thing....

C) On my first system i had to load some ASPI drivers...so I tried that.... Checked to see if they loaded, yep they are there but its still a no go.

4) Thought hey Ill bypass Nero and maybe DVD shrink will still burn it... Nope... Burn window is greyed out as if it is not a dvd burner........

Any help would be greatly appreciated......

Thanks.... Trashman

If that's not the same firmware version that you've currently got installed, it may fix your problem. Another thing you may want to do is make sure that your Nero's fully updated (they seem to come up with new versions monthly for most things), just in case your particular version doesn't support that drive. Since DVD Shrink uses Nero as its burning engine, if Nero's having a problem, so will Shrink. Of course, you can try using Shrink to create an ISO image, and attempt to burn that image with DVD Decrypter; if you're sucessful, then it will point a blaming finger at Nero. If you're NOT sucessful, then at least you'll know that it has to do with the burner itself.

Good luck!

I did a little searching. The 400c is a rebadged Philips DVD8401.
The 400i is a Philips DVDRW824K.

Supposedly, the firmware version "FH04" from HP fixes it, however,
after installing the 400i firmware it may be "difficult" to revert.

Read how xfire (http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:4mj4islukOAJ:club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D92188+%22hp+400c%22&hl=en&start=9)
fixed the problem.

Good luck.
