My brother wants to convert his vhs collection to dvdr.

He has

600mhz p3
200mb pc100
rage ati 128 pro
160 gig spare hdd

And the capture card is a pinnacle pctv studio

Very low spec i know, so we might take the capture card out and put it in a faster pc.

Also whats the best software for doing this? <£1000

You and your brother should read the Capture FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32575) and the Capture Guide (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/capture/start.html). These should answer most, if not all of your questions.

If your brother really prefers simple-to-use commercial software that takes little (or no) knowledge or skill to use, the "consumer grade" digital editors such as Ulead VideoStudio (free trial available from www.ulead.com) should do nicely, as they can capture, convert, build menus, and even burn DVDs.

He'll need a DVD burner, of course.

There is no "Best." Everyone has an opinion. See Rule #12 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm). While you're there, please review Rule 1. :sly:
