View Full Version : 4 Episodes to 2x DVD+R

I am fully aware how to use Shrink, Recode, DVD2DVD-R2 to do the basic operation. This is not my goal. So perhaps someone can point me at a thread, where my problem is being discussed. Here is what I am trying to do:

I am trying to create a playable backup, which can be reassembled easily to DVD+R9. The menues are all in VTS_01_0.vob, the episode number 1 to 4. I simply removed the vobs for Episode 3 and 4, burned. The result worked fine with Episode 1 and 2. Then burned Episode 3 and 4, as well as VTS_01_0.vob. Of course, I left all small bup and ifo files on the disk. I was expecting to be able to play 3 and 4 now, but that didn't work. I always get to the menue, which works fine. When I start an episode, I either drop to the players logo or end up somewhere within an episode. Obviously, I miss a point.

My questions are

1. Are there any simple fixes?

2. Will I be able to merge the files again for DVD+R9 ?

3. If I were using Recode to get this in working condition, could I ever join the pieces back ?

Thanks for any clues, links or explainations.

EDIT: I found a nice and fast solution to this problem. I posted the details at the bottom. Unfortunately, I can't link to a particular post (though I've seen it done), so just scroll down...

hi, the tool you need is vobBlanker, you can find it in the IFO/VOB Editors forum.
all you have to do is blank episodes 3 and 4 on the first disc then 1 and 2 on the second.
then later you can merge the two(vobs) with vobedit and use the replace in vobBlanker to put it back. one more thing keep you original ifo's.(you never know you might need them)

Well, thank you!

I will look into it at once. But why would I have to blank episodes 3 and 4 on the first disk? Was it pure coincidence that my disk 1 acts as desired? After all, blanking will take some time and efford. So far, disk 1 was only drag and drop.

Using Vobblanker, I get an error right away:
Max Mpgc Limit (300) has been reached.
Can't continue. Hmm?

I just tried it with one disk that does not produce the error message. I was able to generate a disk, which would play only the first two or the last two episodes.

I then tried to merge them together again, using "Replace". The merging generated a full size DVD, but the replaced Episodes don't play . Since this topic evidently belongs into another Sub-Forum, I will repost my problem there. Since, I have found that copying back the original vts_03 and _04.ifos helps.

If you can help me further with this, please reply in the Ifo/Vob Editors Section. Thank you.

I have now tried something very simple:

I used Nero Recoder to create two DVD+R, which both hold the complete menu plus two episodes each. I used colored background to fill the deleted episodes.

When I copy one DVD+R back to HD and then just copy the missing episodes files from the other DVD+R, I seem to end up with a working version of the original. Is that right? That would be just what I want.

@sweetness: Can I store the original ifos in an extra subfolder on my backups?

I have now made my decision on how to proceed. So I'll let you know in case you hit upon this post while searching for a similar problem.

I am using only VOBblanker and Ifoedit.

I copy all files from DVD to one dir called Hold.

I create three more folders called hold1 and hold2 and ifohold.

I COPY all ifo and bup files to ifohold. (Just to be on the safe side)

I open vobblanker and input from hold, output to hold1. I select "skip all". I then turn on for processing only the "to be blanked" title sets 3 and 4 and select their blanking, then process. This only takes seconds.

I repeat this with hold2 and titleset 1 and 2 accordingly.

I now close Vobblanker, and use the good old explorer to MOVE or COPY

Now I MOVE (not copy) titleset 1 and 2 to hold 1, 3 and 4 to hold 2.

Then I COPY the remaining files in hold to hold2.

Then I MOVE the remaining files from hold to hold1.

Now I open the created sets with ifoedit and hit GET-VTS-SECTORS.

Use ifoedit to remove PUOPs in the unaltered titlesets, if you wish.

Dont forget to burn the IFOHOLD folder as well.

Seems to work fine and seems to be recombinable to the original.
