Data DVD format for both PC and Mac

Hi all,

Is there anything I need to watch out for if I want to burn data DVDs that will be readable with both PCs and Macs?
Will DVD-R be ok? any settings in Nero I need to check?

More generally, what's a good place to read up about the details of different DVD formats?
