View Full Version : edit delay of encoded RV10 files

Here is the proble. I was archiving some avi's. It seems that the avi was corrupt at a point, but it did not cause the avi's audio to get delayed at all, but it did cause the avi to stop playing, until you would seek to another point in the movie.
THe encoded RV10 files audio is delayed after the corrupted segment. So at the 15 minute point in the video, the audio gets delayed by 1700ms.
I used RealProducer to split the file into two files before and after the point of corruption. The second file's audio needs to be set to a delay of 1700ms before I can join these 2 files. What utility can I use to do this?
So far I have avoided using command line tools at all.
I realise that this could have been avoided, or the avi could be re encoded properly possibly if I cut out the corrupted segment in VDub.
Thanks!

As explained here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83034), you can easily use dtdrive to change the audio delay in the RM file with the 1700ms offset. Or you can change both files into Matroska and do the same with mkvmerge via its GUI mmg.

Hey Karl
I was just reading throught hat post as we speak. I got dtdrive. I ran the exact command that you wrote on that post. The command prompt said that everything went ok BUT, the file won't play in MPC.
I would be more than happy to go with matroska here, in fact I have tried already, but I find no documentation ANYWHERE th append 2 mkv files.
Thanks for the help.

I am afraid I don't know what the problem could be. I have tried the dtdrive offset command here, and it works fine. I can play the resulting file both in MPC and RealPlayer. Try to add option '-S 1'. I have been told resulting RM files are slightly more "compatible", but I did not need this option here. You could of course also install RealPlayer and try there, to help isolate the problem
Wrt. merging MKV files, that may not be possible until they have a working mkveditor, but the New A/V Formats - Containers forum would be the right place to ask.

Thanks Karl
I tried that option in dtdrive, same result. I'll give it a try on the Matroska side.

I give man. There is apparently no way to split the file into 2, set the proper audio delay in each of the Matroska files(which I was able to do in MKVToolNix), append the 2 video segments(which I was able to do with Matroska Stream Editor), and have the output have the correct audio positions.
The resulting appended file did not retain the delay values that I entered in the split files in mkvmerge. So, with Matroska this is impossible.
I gave in, I just loaded the original source avi into VDub, highlighted the bad segments and hit delete(which I just found out you can do after using VDub for 3 YEARS!, good god man, where is this in the manual?) and saved the outputs to direct stream copy. Now the corrupted bits are gone from the movie, but the movie also skips a good 20 to 30 seconds, small price to pay.
