View Full Version : ScenAid 1.0 Final !
D3s7
2nd October 2004, 16:08
I'm proud to announce that ScenAid 1.0 Final is finally available.
ScenAid is the first and only utility allowing you the user to quickly create a script for Scenarist (2.6, 2.7, and 3.0) from your DoItFast4u! demux and offering many options
VOB and PGC demuxes
Advanced subtitle alignment
Very accurate Scene / Chapter locations
Button Over Video support
Audio padding (making your audio the same length as your video)
Scenarist Automation
One Click run (select a directory and let it go)
Explorer integration (quick and simple scanning of a directory)
BatchCCEWS automation
Ability to use original assets instead of re-encoding
Current Known issues / limitations with 1.0
Angle assets of different length are currently not corrected
BoV support in Scenarist 3.0 is limited (Scenarist 3 requires all forced subtitles to have a highlight associated
Don't think that we are ending here.... the following features are in the works as we speak
Bitrate calculations
Ability to select/deselect assets and recalc bitrate accordingly
Direct ECL generation, removing the need for an external encoding application
QEnc support
More Button Over Video support
Advanced subtitle support including the ability to group subs and create subtitle effects
Batch ReAuthoring support (select multiple directories and all will be encoded/authored in order)
As usual, if you have any problems please post your questions / comments (in a separate thread, I would like to keep this thread clean for updates / latest information)
Also I will be updating / modifying the ScenAid website adding common Scenarist FAQ's as well as ScenAid notes/advancements
Please also remember, I do this in my spare time (which isn't much with a fulltime job and family) so bare with me if it takes a little while to get back with you regarding your issues / updates / requests (that and an occational donation goes a long way :))

Hi,
Thanks for your hard word and constant improvement of your piece of software, but unfortunatly it just crashed on me with this message while trying to backup NEMO:
Procedure Name: Milli2Frames
Module Name: GlobalFunctions
Error Number: 13
Error Description: Type incompatible
Error Source: ScenAid
Error Line: 10
Call Stack:
Milli2Frames --> GlobalFunctions
ProcessBOV --> ProcessAssets
ProcessDIF --> Form1
recent_Click --> Form1
Do you need something or is this a known problem ?
TIA.

The BoV support is far from finished so it doesn't suprise me there might be an issue there....
Please zip up the .bdx/.bov/.log/.sst/.ifo file and email it to me..

What's up with ScenAid? I upgraded to the file from whatever version I had before (1003 is what I remember being in the filename) and now all of a sudden the only thing I ever get in scenartist is:
Error This VOB duration (80988.5 frames) is not multiple number of frame.
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (scenartist.scn-VTS01_004_Track_t.vob).
Error The VOB duration must be even number of fields.
Error Multiplex is failed.
Info Multiplexing failed, Track<VTS01_004_Track>
Error MuxFromDB:MuxVTS failed
Error Multiplex failed
Error DVD files could not be created
What a bummer... I want the old version back (however I deleted it!)!

Well i'm sorry to tell you but that's not really a ScenAid issue...
In Fact, ScenAid does it's best to correct those...
there's many ways to fix those... search the forum for that error and you'll find many hits.
(The absolute fix BTW is to do a 2:3 pulldown not 3:2 which is default in all apps)

@D3s7
Thanks. I didn't think it was ScenAid, but I figured if I vaguely implied it I'd get a really quick response that would solve my problem! :P Sorry for using your thread, I had searched before and really didn't find an answer aside from manually playing with the duration in Scenartist.
So how do I make 2:3 be the default? And where can I find information on running a 2:3 pulldown on the currently encoded assets and re-running ScenAid so that I can mux this without re-encoding? I just tried another search, nothing seems to pop right out. I really appreciate your program and help D3s7, thanks so much. ;)

Oh and also, I'm using BatchCCEWS 0.9.1.5 Beta and it says 2:3 pulldown, not 3:2. Is 3:2 the actual default, or...? I'd really like to fix this tonight without re-encoding as this is the 2nd time as is! =\

Sorry for the delay... i gotta check my mail server.. keep getting duplicate messages of some messages and none of others..
Anyway.. 2:3 / 3:2.... 2:3 is what the apps do and 3:2 is what we want this is in effect somewhat against what everything says however in the tests we've done, the opposite fixes those .5 frame errors.. - as far as how to do it, I have a custom version of pulldown.exe w/ a switch to do the opposite direction.. BBWoof was working on adding this to BatchCCEWS before he disappeared and a few other in dev apps have that switch (ScenAid may very well do it internally someday)
As a temporary fix, in Scenarist, you can find the asset causing the problem and nudge back the track duration by 1,2,3,4 frames till it muxes that track.... you in theory should never have to go back more then 5 frames (IE if your track duration is 02:10:01:20 - try 02:10:01:19, 18, 17, 16 till it muxes)
________________________________________________________________
To explain a little for users what we are talking about here we have to understand what happens when a pulldown occurs... roughly put it's like this
FRAMES in a 23.976 framerate are AABBCCDD (works in batches of 4 for what we are talking about)
In the current pulldown method (2/3) pulldown to 29.97 gives us this
AA BB BC CD DD - thus giving us 5 frames from 4.. in this method, if your asset lands on 2,3,4 (not sure why 2) scenarist complains about .5 frame errors... as it is - half one frame, half the other
in the opposite (3/2) we get this:
AA AB BC CC DD - thus 1,4,5 are all good - so far in our tests, 99.9% of the .5 frame errors go away....

I found a bug that was causing still's not to be written as stills... it's writing them as video which would give you the .4sec duration error on import....
Could be that's what's causing that especially if it's a slideshow VTS..
how big are the assets for VTS7?

Another thing that I found in using 1.0f is that when i do dif4u>nm4u>bccews>scenaid(import^compile^close) i come back to senaid minimized and sitting there not doing anything. once i maximize it and make it an active window it starts the asset scan/offset adjustment/etc.

The Time2Frames error is same problem but w/ the .sst your currently processing... if you can email it to me I can look and see what's going on

I don't see this problem reported anyplace else, so I thought I'd add it on here. If there is a solution elsewhere feel rfee to point me in the right direction.
Basically everything works perfectly. DIF4U calls BCCEWS, then Scenaid gets called. Scenaid opens properly, has the proper directory, but then it just pauses. The strange thing is the minute I click on it to give it focus and bring it to the foreground, it starts working again. I do not have to hit anything inside Scenaid to get the process started. Once it has started, the process continues until the end, Scenarist Import/Compile/Close is also perfect.
Here is the log of a movie I processed last night.

hey wfn1:
well, not exactly sure of your structure, subtitles etc. but recently i had this error as a result of a .sst that started the time at negative 7 hours to the video ?!??!?!?
i simply removed the subs folder from the VTS_x demux folder,
ran scenaid,
used subrip, and manually imported that .sst into scenarist.
there is probably an easier way but it worked for me.
good luck

Question:
This has been bugging me for sometime, so I must ask it. Please let me know if my thinking on this issue is flawed in anyway. Does ScenAid calculate bitrates -at all-? The reason I'm asking is because, say I have a DVD such as the following:
-5 VTSs, but I only want to keep VTS1.. so 2-5 (which are ~3G total) will be deleted.
When I rip this DVD in DIF4U I would deselect VTSs 2-5, and just rip VTS1. After ripping it VTSs 2-5 would be in the VIDEO_TS so I would just go and delete the mpegs from the VIDEO_TS. However, DIF4U's bitrates would of been calculated based upon the VIDEO_TS with the 3G worth of additional mpegs in there.. which I'm guessing if ScenAid didn't recalculate those bitrates would result in a undersized DVDR.
What am I missing? Would what I'm describing actually happen? Someone please clue me in, thanks!
D3s7
23rd December 2004, 21:13
Your correct... currently Scenaid does not calculate bitrates
in reality, what you are asking can be done but not that way... the easist way to do it would be to run a utility such as vobblanker and "blank" out the VTS sets you don't want, then proceed as normal with Doitfast4u
However, that being said we (the authors of the Big3/4) do not support butchering in this manor so if there's issues, your pretty much on your own
pcm1ke
24th December 2004, 00:27
How can you run vobblanker on the VTSs prior to ripping them? :P
I understand the position on the butchering, its just necessary on some movies. On some it's either you use 2 discs or you remove some nonsense extras (as I prefer bitrates >3100). :D
D3s7
24th December 2004, 00:32
you run vobblanker on your mounted iso....
it blanks out the vob's you select and creates a directory w/ the "finished" files
then use imgclassic and createa new .iso and rip from that

I've had this problem for awhile and it only occurs about half the time. I get the following error:
Scenarist has failed due to a script error; further actions have been cancelled.
Of course automate exits and I am left sitting with this error box. After I press OK and the error box goes away, I can look at the import and general tabs of Scenarist and they show no error at all. If I pull up the Scenaid error .txt file, this is the only errors listed:
Error Class(Sub-Picture Play) Tag(Duration, 7203) failed to paste
Error Class(Sub-Picture Play) Tag(Duration, 7203) failed to paste
And the file ends with the finish importing line like it was successfully done.
Now if I go to the layout screen of Scenarist and proceed to create the dvd files, everything proceeds fine and the files are created without any errors. Of course I have to manually finish placing the vob files into the video_ts directory and updating the ifos to get it to work.
I guess my questions are: What is the above listed error and is it enough to cause Scenarist to pop up the error box after the importing has been completed. AND What do I do about it?
Thanks for your help.
Mac
D3s7
26th December 2004, 23:22
the error you get is from automate_scenarist not scenarist itself....
you shouldn't be getting any paste errors though...
next time it happens, zip up the log/scp/sst and send them to me and I'll take a look
note if you can what .bmp it's failing on

While the VisualC++ version of Scenaid is progressing with many new features I didn't want everyone to think I haven stopped updating / fixing the VB version as well. (all of these features are/will be included in the VisualC++ version when it's finally finished)
Currently in testing by my pre-beta team (major contributers and donators) is a new VB build that I hope to release shortly which has many fixes/changes (some listed below)
Fixes/Changes:
Many fixes to the BoV routines - too many to list however it's safe to say the BoV will work 100000x better now (thank you zeul for your knowledge and pointing these out)
CLI changes / fixes to resolve scanning issues
Still / Slide show assets now properly detected / scripted (no change yet for slideshow presentations but encoded stills will be scripted correctly now)
Minor tweaks to the subtitle routines
Minor Script changes
Empty CCEData.txt files no longer cause the system to blow up (however obviously the scenaid-ccedata.txt file can't be created)
Additions:
Preview window for the selected AVI
Bitrate Calculations (Currently the bitrate calcs are VISUAL ONLY - they will not be written to any file, no changes to the selected/unselected assets will be reflected in the script, however it lets you see what the bitrate might be if you remove audio X or clip Y - these changes can be made manually and a rescan done if you wish to apply them)
Now is the time if you have any outstanding issues to let me know if you would like them in the next release

Hi, thanks for this great tool. I'm working on Goldmember, which is an InfiniFilm title... The BOV support looks like it works perfectly, when I play it in PowerDVD or in the simulation window, I'm getting the highlights.
My problem is, for these highlights, there doesn't seem to be a button associated with them? I press the enter/select key when they're up on the screen, and my DVD Player tells me theres nothing to select.
Is there an easy fix for this? I'm new to BOV stuff, so can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
D3s7

The BOV support in 1.0 had many flaws which I've been ironing out over time..
If you can hold tight for a few more days I'm almost finished wrapping up the new build which will be more accurate for you
