I've been doing my best to decide whether or not I need to buy a copy of CCE, or keep using QuEnc. I'd like some feedback and opinions from DVD-RB users/testers as to which they think is the better of the two.

Speed comparisons - timeframe on average do rebuild DVD9 to DVD5 with each.

Quality comparisons - obvious and not so obvious. Especially quality comparisons on larger scales (>46" HD / Widescreen TV's).

I just don't know if it's worth it to buy CCE, as I see a lot of "QuEnc is awesome, it's great, it rocks my world" but no explanation as to how or why.

So...? :)

IMO (and it's just my opinion), I've done many, many test between the 2 ....short chips, stills (not that still pics really tell anything) and CCE Basic and SP just look alittle better then QuEnc to me. QuEnc is a great, great free encoder...(FREE) and for that it is the best deal. QuEnc is real, real, real, close to CCE but just not there yet. I have a Pioneer PRO-730HDi TV and a Pioneer DV59-AVi DVD Player and CCE just looks abit better to me on my TV. As for speed, I have an AMD 64 3400+ and CCE SP 2.50 gives me about 3.5 to 4.0 rt encoding where QuEnc gives me about 20.00 to 25.00 frames (about 1.00 rt with Trellis and HQ settings) so CCE is faster for me on my AMD. This is just my opinion and take it for what it is but you should download the CCE Demo and try it, see how it looks to you.

2 very big slowdowns there of course. try disabling both or even just 1 of them and you get a speed increase. yes you lose a bit of quality but depending on your target bitrate and type of footage it may not be so bad.

as you say Fishman0919, people should try for themselves and see if the difference in quality and speed is worth the money to them.

CCE doesnt have trellis now does it ? sorry i havent looked at a version for quite some time. ;)

Again this is just my opinion but on my 73" TV after watching both encoders I wish I would have found QuEnc before I paid for CCE Basic. CCE Basic is great but for the speed and little quality increase (Again just my opinion) QuEnc is the best deal.

Hi

tried both too....
IT even seems to depend on the movie also (is this possible?). I liked Quenc for some movies better then CCE. It looked more vivid.

For large movies i still use cce... but quenc would be ok for many people
