View Full Version : Some newbie questions concerning Matroska

Please help me with the following questions. I have tried doing searches to find the answers, but I think my search parameters are too broad, and returning too many hits that are not helpful.

1. What is the install procedure for the Matroska playback pack? I think I may have installed a previous version before, and may already have some of the codecs and splitters already installed.

2. Do I have to unregister/uninstall the previous items first before the install, or can I install over them? I am asking this because I heard there can be serious conflicts if not done properly.

3. If they must unregistered/uninstalled first, how do I go about doing this?

4. I have tried creating a mkv file with mkvtoolnix, and it plays generally fine. But I came upon something weird in my playback, the time stays at 00:00 while playing. As a result, when I try to FF through the video, it just restarts. This also makes it impossible for me to seek further ahead in the video, it restarts again. I was wondering what I could be doing wrong. This file includes subtitles, which playback fine, even though the time stays at 00:00, don't know if this is important information, but I'm adding it just in case. I am assuming I set it up wrong (mkvmerge, using mmg.exe), I simply added the files, then muxed. Am I missing a step?

Thank you for taking the time to read this newbs questions. And an even bigger thank you if you are able to answer my questions.

Uninstalling first will never hurt. You should be able to uninstall it from start-->programs-->matroska or "add/remove software" in the control panel.

I think this will be solved by installing the new matroska pack (1.0.3). If you are using Media Player Classic to playback Matroska files, make sure you disable the internal matroska splitter (in MPC view-->options-->filters) as it is outdated now.

So would it be because of the matroska splitter I have, the one currently installed is like 1.0.2.3, is there a newer one. Also the option to uninstall matroska is not available, I think I got it out of a codec/playback pack other than the matroska pack, so I'm guessing I'd have to do it manually. I view my files with Zoom Player.
