View Full Version : Audio selection Bug??

It seems to me that DVD-RB has a bug in mantaining the correct audio tracks. Here is the problem.
- DVDRB version 0.62
- Audio table from the main movie vts ifo:
Audio 1: English (Dolby AC-3) 6ch 48Kbps DRC normal (ID: 0x80)
Audio 2: Italiano (Italian) (Dolby AC-3) 6ch 48Kbps DRC normal (ID: 0x82)
Audio 3: English (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC director's comments (ID: 0x81)
- Here is what I selected to retain in RB
http://img74.exs.cx/img74/9774/sel01.jpg
- Result: RB retains english 5.1 and english comments in the correct order (i.e. it puts english 5.1 as the first stream and english comments as the 3rd) and puts an empty stream as 2nd stream (so no italian 5.1 is retained). The final size is perfect.
I tryed to rebuild (just rebuild) with this options:
http://img74.exs.cx/img74/7366/sel02.jpg
and as you can immagine now RB retains english 5.1 and italian 5.1 putting the streams at correct places. Obviously this time I obtained an oversized output.
Is this bug due to the fact that italian 5.1 is the second stream but is "marked as 3rd" (0x82)?
If you need any more explaination, please let me know.

Had to read the post a couple times to see what you were saying. Is that the original commercial dvd? ...redirected streams are a rarety.
anywho as a semi-quick fix you could ifoedit it. fix the streams in the main table to<VTSI_MAT> (1) 5.1-Eng (2) 2.0-eng (3) 5.1-It
then run rb on it..
then when finished put them back to (1) 5.1 Eng (2) 5.1-It (3) 2.0-Eng
make sure that the vts_pgci stream settings are correct on your finale audio (1)-32768 *0x80 (2)-33280 *0x82 (3)-33024 *0x81
im not sure this is something that could be *fixed* since consider -- every pgc could have altered stream settings - so simply relying on the pgc_citi data wouldnt be fool proof. the vob would have to be pre scanned to ensure the streams are accurate, and that would be unnecesary overkill (read.. would add alot of time to the process) for a very rare occurance.

Sorry. That is for my not-so-good english.

Yes it is a commercial dvd.
However I solved the problem simply redoing preparation, encoding and rebuilding, setting rb to retain english 5.1 and english 2.0. He retained english 5.1 and italian 5.1 and produced a correctly sized dvd.
However you are maybe right when you say that it is not worth to solve this small bug.

PS. If I make DVDShrink process the movie and I set to remove english commentary, it will remove the track just fine.

That sounds like what I just ran into. I was trying to back up X-Men Special Edition disc 1, and got a reduction level of 10%. Needless to say, the result didn't look too hot, so I tried dropping the 6-track audio:
Title Set 5:
VTS_5 Video: MPEG-2 720x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (16:9) (letterboxed)
VTS_5 Audio 1: English (Dolby AC-3) 6ch 48Kbps DRC normal
VTS_5 Audio 2: English (DTS ) 6ch 48Kbps DRC normal
VTS_5 Audio 3: Français (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC normal
VTS_5 Audio 4: Español (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC normal
VTS_5 Audio 5: English (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC normal
(I only kept Audio 4 and 5.) The result was oversized, totalling 5,551,902,720 bytes.

As I recall it, I started from scratch after realizing that the problem was due to the size of the audio. (Also due to the size of the *_0.VOB, which DVD-RB doesn't compress; there's close to 3 gig tied up in there.)
If necessary, I could repeat it. (I probably want to drop one of the 400 meg VOB files that I can do without, anyway...)

You could try to encode menus with another program (DVDShrink ? ) setting no compression for the main movie, and then use DVD-RB on the output. It's an unsupported procedure, so, if you have problems, you have to split on two dvds.

I don't understand why you say it's an impossible task. Doesn't it just mean there's less room for the movie? While I would certainly prefer it if I could compress those (especially if DVD-RB could do it), I don't see how that has anything to do with the oversized result.

Anytime you get an oversized or undersized result, it's a good idea to post the [Status] area of the REBUILDER.INF file in the D2VAVS directory. It gives some good clues as to what happens.
