View Full Version : Trying to rip "The Office Season one" with DVDShrink 3.2, but doesn't work

I'm trying to rip "The Office" Season One, Disc One, with DVDShrink 3.2, but after it does the analysis, the overall DVD is too big. The only way I can get it to fit on one DVD is if I remove an episode, which I don't want to do.
(I have also tried to do a deep analysis, but it doesn't work)
I can't manually change the compression, and the lowest it will go is 57.4%, which is the end of the slider bar.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks.

hi firehawk12 and welcome to the forum,
well presumably you have already tried removing any unwanted audio etc, so i would say you have three options:
1. split to two dvd-5 discs
2. try a different back-up tool - at that size reduction , re-encoding with Cinema Craft Encoder would be the only way to go, so try DVD Rebuilder as it is also 'one-click'
3. leave dvdshrink at maximum compressibility, and process, then re-process the processed files again to 're-shrink' those files to fit onto a single dvd-5 (basically run dvdshrink twice)

That's wierd that you arent able to switch to custom ratio in the drop down box and move the slider manually. But with those compression ratios you might be better off looking into using DVD Rebuilder. You will most likely get better results. If that 57 percent compression is with the slider all the way to the left then that means you just cant compress the movie any more than that. So your only options are to:
1. Get rid of some extras (if there are any)
2. Compress Menu files (if they are pretty big)
3. Use DVD Rebuilder instead. Its really quite easy. Much easier than the big 3 thats for sure.
EDIT: Dang you beat me to it Jel.

I don't quite understand. Is it that you can't change from automatic to custom ratio?
1. Are you letting shrink rip the dvd from the disk. If so try using dvd decrypter. then select the video_ts folder from the hard drive.
2. Is shrink doing a quick analyze when you first select the dvd files? If not see question 3.
3. In view/preferences under the first tab do you have "run analyze and back up in low priority mode" checked?
4. When you select backup are the settings under the quality tab available or grayed out?

^^
It's like the first poster said, DVDShrink won't compress it past 57.4% for some reason.
I can't manually compress it, and I've tried a deep analysis on it as well.

Hi all. :)
firehawk12, simply shrink the files twice, as previously suggested.
Just ignore the "Files are too big.." message the first time round. ;)
