What's this MDS file w/ dvddecrypter?

I was was getting to burn an ISO image and clicked on the image itself. A pop up came up and said something to the effect that I need to select the MDS file and that it will do it for me this one time and said don't do it again??

I've always selected the ISO image itself and at times have deleted that MDS file or whatever it was in the past. What exactly does it do? AND can I still burn image now w/ this version of dvddecrypter if I delte the MDS? Thanks

the MDS is a "media descripter".. basically stores information about the image.

when you create a dvd image using DVD Decrypter's Read ISO function it generates one.

No it's not needed though to burn back.. imgclassic for example creates a .iso but doesn't generate a .mds to go w/ it

(as a side note.. DVD Decrypter can generate a valid .MDS for you as well from an iso file... tools / create MDS file)

You need it for DL images though.

You cannot recreate it for DL images so once you've deleted it, it's gone forever.

excuse my ignorance. What's a DL image. I'm guessing a dual layered Image?

Yup, it's double layer.

How about mount the ISO file with Daemon-Tools, then use DVD Decrypter to re-rip it, would it be able to regenerate the MDS file?

No, information about the layers cannot be recreated from just the ISO file.

That's the whole reason behind using the MDS file.

Would it matter if I drop the MDS file when ripping single-layer DVD? I mean when the size is less than 4.37GB coz I am not sure whether size < 4.37GB necessarily means single-layer DVD.
