Can anyone point me to a few cards that have such a feature? Web searches seem to be getting more useless and bloated everyday. The only one I found was a canopus card that costs 4400$. Which is all well and good but I doubt i'll find one on the cheap on Ebay. Plus it does a ton of things I don't care for. Just component inputs, on a card that I can place in a windows PC, simple.

There is a card called the Sweetspot (http://www.pluggedin.tv/sweetspot/) that can do this. It sells for about 175,- Britisch pounds.

It was discussed over at Everwicked (http://virtualdub.everwicked.com/index.php?act=ST&f=11&t=6690&hl=sweetspot&) a while ago.

I have no idea how good it is (and I was a bit sceptical about it). But it is certainly a lot cheaper.

[edit] there also is a card called the Holo3DGraph-II (http://www.digitalconnection.com/products/video/h3dgraph2.asp) which costs $800.

I found it by looking for other cards using the SAA7118 chip.

It does seem odd that something with component inputs would be so cheap. Would need to see some comparisons on quality, plus it doesn't say if it does 480p/720p or what. Or maybe that doesn't matter and component is component.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the reply!

edit: Hmm, even the high priced one says that its component inputs do 480i, not 480p or 720p, which is what I'm looking for. Oh well, more searching to do.

I'm not sure, but I would guess the primary market for cards like this is in HTPC's, where you want to drive a progessive display device like a beamer with an interlaced signal. If the signal is already progressive there would not be much point to that.

Also, all devices that produce progressive output have digital sources, so going through an extra digital to analog to digital cycle would only decrease quality. Any intermediate steps you would want to keep in digital.
