Are they still not really available? All I've found are really expensive ones as part of a multipack with regular dvd-r's etc.
Seems kinda stupid that there are all these dual layer drives coming out, 2nd generation ones already, and yet the media is still not really available!

This is very good advice where DL discs are concerned, make sure you take it.

There is a test of different 16x +R media and MCC+Ritek DL media in the latest C'T.

Result with DL media:
- all drives had good write quality with MCC DL media (the Pioneer A08 even at 4x speed)
- no drive produced something acceptable on Ritek DL media...

I live in california, USA. Those sites look european to me.

None of my regular online stores sell dvd+r dl media other than in multipacks that include non dual layer media as well.
I want to get a spindle of say 25-50 dvd+r DL disks...

It's not available on spindels. The largest packs Verbatim is making atm are 5-packs of Juwel Cased ones

That 3-pack Verbatim is the only thing I was able to find in North America (not counting real crap - Ritek). The availability is better than before you can get them @ Staples, Rima and many others.
