View Full Version : Stabalizing Filter?

Is there any filter out there that stabalizes a video? This is in reference to a cartoon/anime. Mainly I mean in some scenes, the camera pans when it shouldnt. Thus it feels like some sort of homemade movie you can say. I want to know if there is like an unpan or stabalization filter, that will stop it from jerking around. Is there any filter at all? Im clueless >< or is there any method of doing this?

Edit: I am aware of Deshaker, if possible though I was hoping of an avisynth filter to use. sorry about that .

search is your friend:

DePan (avisynth)

DeShaker (virtualdub, little more powerful than DePan)

Icarus (standalone application, slow as hell, but can turn a shaky DV movie into a 3d scene, allowing you to add CG elements and track the camera movement almost perfectly)

could you elaborate on your problem? i've never heard of unwanted pans, unless you're talking about 16:9 converted to 4:3 pan-and-scan (supported by DVD, but i don't know of a single title out there that uses it).

Well the source is 16:9 however I dont want to convert it to 4:3 the main problem is this; the scenes are not supposed to pan
and by pan I guess the best way to say it is like jitter. By this I mean E.G.: Your taping a video on camcorder, someone comes over and moves the camcorder and your trying to bring it back up to keep focus on something in turn it causes this unwanted panning/bobbing/jittering movmemnt; its like that with the anime. For instance in one of the scenes everything is supposed to be static except for the guys mouth which hes talking; and the whole picture is jittering left and right as a whole ( not noise problem ). Does that help any? I cna post some avis but Id need a place to up :\.

Edit: however Ill try the other two filters/programs as well thanks but anymore tips will help; I want to gather as much information on this as possible so If I encounter this problem again I know of different methods to use. Thanks again though.

depan will handle the jitter you're talking about.

also, a side effect of Kassandro's RemoveDirt is that the jitter gets removed too (however, if the jitter is too large it can lead to massive shearing artefacts, where half the frame gets "removed" and the other half doesn't with a big split in between).

Icarus is no longer available as a free download. A company has purchased the software and is now charging a hefty price tag. Although I was able to download it before the software was bought out. I never was able to find out how to use it, seemed and looked powerful, but confusing (although that was 3 or 4 years ago). Is there any tutorials or how-to's on how to use the CG-Info with Icarus?

Thanks!

hehe.. i got the download before it went commercial too.

unfortunately that's on a backup CD that's in a safe place (which i can't find).

i used it a couple of times, but it was so slow i didn't learn all the fancy stuff it did. there was a way of exporting a .max scene with a load of data points (as point objects) in the scene and a moving camera that reflected the extrapolated movements of the actual camera. if you placed things just right you could put fake objects in a real scene almost seamlessly. great for those fake UFO sightings :)

i never used any tuts - just played with the interface.
