Hello to the Board. I have been successfully using Shrink 3.1 to back up and burn files.....until now.

No matter what I try to do, a pop-up says Shrink has encountered a problem....there is not enough space on your target drive. I have tried both of my drivers with new discs, and still get the pop-up.

Sorry but I'm completely illiterate when it comes to computers, and am trying my very best to learn as much as I can, but I just don't know what to do.

Thanks for any help
Penny

Hello honeypenny. :)

The question is: is there actually enough space on your hard-drive?

1) If the answer is yes, have you recently defragmented your drive?
If you're not sure, run the Windows defragmenter ("C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dfrg.msc" on XP systems), select the drive you normally save your backups to, and click on "Analyze".
This will tell you if the drive needs defragmenting.
You can also find a shortcut to the Windows defragmenter in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools" folder.

2) If the answer is no, try and free as much space as possible.
Delete backups you've already burned to disc.
If you use Norton Systemworks, right-click on the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" and choose "Purge/Delete protected files".

Is your target file destination on a hard drive or did you select a drive that is your DVD writer?

If you are burning directly to a DVD from within Shrink using either Nero or DVD Decrypter (first box option), you still have to place the files on your hard drive (second box option).

Thank you both for sharing your wisdom with this 'kindergardner':)

I did what you suggested and cleared some movies from my hard drive, and everything is working just fine again. Don't know why I didn't think of that to begin with.

And in case someone hasn't thanked you lately for developing such a wonderful, easy tool, may I say a big Thank You!

I paid $30 for Rapid Copy Pro, and when it wouldn't download, they referred my to Shrink....which I found out later was free anyway. Once bitten, twice shy!

Thanks again
Penny
