View Full Version : .bin file too big (again ...)

RPT
26th September 2004, 15:58
I seem to be having this probelm on an ongoing basis ... I don't know if I'm unique. I haven't found anything on point in the Q&A, or in other threads. Often when I run DVD2SVCD on the default bitrate settings, I end up with a bin file that is too big for an 800 meg cd, eve when the burner is set to overburn (I use Nero, which seems to be the most reliable burner). When I adjust the bitrate settings, I find it's a matter of trial & error whether or not it works, and as a result I can end up taking a lot of time to create the disks.

The log is as follows:

I've also saved the audio logs, the SVCDInfo file & the VCXBuilder log, if they're of any help.

Thanks!! :stupid:

How big are they exactly? If they really are too big, perhaps just enter slightly smaller values for the CD size in the bitrate tab. Yes, you can actually type in a value you like - i.e. if 800 is too big, try perhaps 780 or 790...

The one that I can't burn is 839 megs. I've ended up with other plus 800 meg bin files before, and up to a point I can burn them (particularly if I overburn). However, occasionally (as in this case) I end up with a bin file that's just too big ... I've played around with the number of minutes on each CD in the bitrate settings, and I find that's very much hit & miss ... sometimes it works, but sometimes it just makes one of the other bin files too big. One thing I haven't played with is the CD size (insert picture of hand slapping forehead) ... I don't know why, cause it's pretty obvious now that I think about it. I'll try it. Has anyone else had this problem, and has this worked for them?

Thanks!

Yeah, it works alright!
Thing is, I never seem to get oversize images so I'm more concerned about tracking down why you are.

839MB is not just too big, it's huge!

Do you have the "Min Ave" box checked in the bitrate tab? If so, uncheck it.

RPT
28th September 2004, 14:17
It's not checked off. I know that I will sometimes exceed the recommended bitrate (mostly because of additional audio tracks), & I will get a message warning that the resulting SVCD could be unplayable. I've never had that problem, but I wonder if that could impact on the bin size .....

I'm curious..
Could you post the exact size of:

bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg
bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg
and
bbMPEG_Muxed_File-subbed00.mpg
bbMPEG_Muxed_File-subbed01.mpg

?

I never used true SVCD subs (my settop doesn't like them), but, I do not understand well the figures of free disk space of your log..

Sorry jsoto ... when the conversion failed, I kept the log files but erased all of the other files. Limited disk space, y'know. :(

Men... you're not the only one... I've someone with the same problem on the portuguese forum, and it happened to mee, too.
What's the only thing that's common to all the cases?.... TMPGEnc...

Try d2sroba with CCE...

When it happened to me I solve the problem extracting the mpeg file from the image (it was always the last one, thank God) and then I cuted off the credits.

Thanks Rockas ... I'll try CCE next time.:)
What about Canopus ProCorder? Anyone know if that will correct the problem as well?

I tried to use it once... seemed to me too slow... then I gave up... so I can't say anything about it :(

I have this exact same problem, and it also has been happening more and more often to me. I seem to have the problem more if as the movies I'm converting are longer than 2 hours. What's weird is that I do NOT encounter the problem if the the movie is short enough (like a Disney cartoon about 80 minutes) to squish on to one CD. However, if the movie is like 2 hours and 20 minutes, the second image is almost always too big to fit on a one CD. My latest encounter with this had the second image at 880mb. The first image was perfect overburn size at 820-ish mb, but the second image was HUGE.

I've always tried to maximize my bitrate for the biggest size image file that I can put on a CD, but I've learned that with any movie over 2 hours, I should just select that I'm using the 740 CD size instead of the 800. I never have problems then -- I do not even get the second image being larger than 740mb. To me that's weird and tells me that there's something wrong with whatever part of the code handles the 800mb CD setting. Can you tell that I rely heavily on how automated DVD2SVCD is? :) I think I'll try setting the CD size to 760 or 780 and see if I have the same problem as 800.

FYI, I'm using TMPGEnc, subtitles always on, and with the exception of bitrate and movie/CD titles, every other setting is untouched.

Thanks for discussing this, folks!
