View Full Version : Instant Copy 8 hidden registry settings

I know that on Mrbass.org/instantcopy, he has some tools to help you get the most out of Instant Copy 8. I was wondering if 'InstantCopy Hidden Settings Editor 1.4.3' is compatible with the latest update to Instant Copy (8.3 I guess although in my about screen it states that it's up to 8.0.3.0320)

What are some of the more useful settings that I can do manually to get the most out of Instant Copy? I found these in another thread but someone laughed and just said that they were very old:

------
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOB\CD Wizard\7.5\Copy]

"DVDDestSize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDDestDisplaySize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDAnalyzeMaxRel"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32%

"DVDAnalyzeMinAbs"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32 x 2.5MB packets that get analysed

"DVDSaveQuality"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDSaveFast"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDAutoFast"=dword:00000064 stops it from setting it to Fast setting

"DVDAlwaysEnableOkButton"="True" obvious
--------
What others are out there? I thought this one was interesting: "For VIDEO_TS output you have to set the DVDAltOutPut in the registry to True." I only have this registry setting in my 8.0 folder and not my 7.5. Should I add the value to the 7.5 folder or just edit the 8.0 one?

Anyway, thanks for any help. I used to use Instant Copy a lot especially when the only other game in town was DVD2one and DVD95copy. But mostly I just use DVDshrink these days. Also messing around with DVD ReBuilder.

those are old as I wrote them :)

I don't think ICHSE is compatiable with the latest version but I've never tested it

you could uninstall IC and then delete any of these registry entries that are left and then reinstall IC again to start fresh. You can then see what is what and manually edit the settings

you can export the registry folder and the just use a text editor to change value. It's then a simple process of executing the .reg file to insert them back into your registry :)

I've been using the PowerToys setting inside of Instant Copy. Seems to work okay, but I can't figure out how to use DVDAltOutPut so that I can output a VIDEO_TS folder instead of .pdi file.

Instant Copy 8 crashed on a 3.5 hour movie with 19 minutes left to go. Kind of frustrating.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81016, that thread will tell you how to enable the VIDEO_TS output option ;)

as for your crash, you would have to test IC again as it did crash sometimes on rather long periods of dark video in the same place. One fix was to remove this video and a quicker test it to remove the stuff you know IC can process. You can test the part it crashes on quicker rather than wait for ages unless of course it's a movie part

I did this with a Simpsons DVD ages ago and managed to work around it :)

Man, that makes me just want to go back to DVDShrink and split the movie in 2.

Wonderful. 17 minutes left to go and it crashed again.

did you get the output to VIDEO_TS to work?

if so where did it crash? Is it in the movie part or is it one of the extras?

I did not get the output to VIDEO_TS to work. I went to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOB\CD Wizard\8.0\Copy and changed DVDAltOutput to True. Unfortunetly it still outputs .pdi

In addition, I have no idea why it's crashing. I stripped everything except the main movie using DVDshrink and then created a VIDEO_TS folder from there. Then I ran that through Instant Copy and it keeps crashing. I'm going to try the original rip and use Instant Copy's movie only feature. I doubt it will make a difference.

(Beware - Rant)
Between the Instant Copy crashing and not outputing a VIDEO_TS folder, my latest DVD being scratched and not being able to be ripped by either of my DVD-Roms, my original copy of Lagaan being f!@#$@ed for no reason, a $285 traffic ticket and subsequent warrant for my arrest being sent to my address, and my LumenLab.com projector project coming to a screeching hault because I broke my brand new $195 LCD (which I can't get replaced or fixed), I'm having a really, really crappy 3-4 days.

that's probably why it's crashing :)

IC does not work with black screens that play for a long time and DVDShrink creates them when you blank the stuff out :)

you could use IC first (leave the stuff you want removing at 100% so it processes quicker) and then remove with DVDShrink afterwards but that would involve remembering what settings to use etc

why not use one of the blanking tools such as Vobedit/Titlesetblanker/DVDStripper/MenuEdit/DVDRemake (probably some more but I can't think of them) to blank the DVD first?

p.s. can't help with the rest though :(

did you right click the output destination in IC GUI and select VIDEO_TS also? The registry setting is only part of the process

That's definetly not it. I'm using the ReAuthor mode in DVDshrink so the ONLY thing left is the main movie. Also, the scene where it is crashing doesn't have any black at all. It's bright, day time, and shot outdoors.

I don't know why I'm bothering with a program that messes up when there's "too much black" in the movie. I know why, because I adored this program when it was at version 7.0.

Why is it not outputting a VIDEO_TS folder?

oops, I wouldn't have posted that if you'd said it was a movie part as I'd asked earlier :o

if it's movie only then you may just want to give up if it's crashed a few times :). I guess IC simply doesn't like that movie as it has in the past with others

if you don't want to give up then you could do smaller tests and crop it using DVDShrink to make a very small minDVD including the part you think crashes it and test that. I don't think you will be in the mood to do it though but that's what I would do if I had time to spare. I would report any finding at the Pinnacle forums (without revealing the name of the DVD of course) or there may even be a workaround

when processing the preview window in IC is behind what IC is actually processing as it reads ahead

Well I figured out the VIDEO_TS output option. Thank you for your help. I'm letting it run again, even though it's probably going to crash again. I'm headed out so it'll be done or crashed when I get back.

I'll try ripping Lagaan to my other computer and mess around with Instant Copy on that machine. Maybe it'll work on that one. Who knows. Otherwise, I'll probably either split the disc in 2 with DVDshrink or do a 4-5 pass DVDRebuilder encode.

Maybe I should install Instant Copy 7...

It crashed. But the VIDEO_TS thing worked. I checked the file. It was definetly not a dark or black scene. In any case, at 58% the quality wasn't satisfactory anyway. Sad though. I was hoping to add Instant Copy too the tool chest but I'll survive without it.

You wouldn't happen to be using a dual processor machine would you ? If so, this can cause the crashes. You have to set the processor affinity to a single CPU to avoid this.

Not just dual-process. If you are using a system with Hyper-Threading. Then you need to set the affinity too. HT will appear as 2 process to Windows anyway. Just check how many CPU graph is on your task manager's performance tab.

I found it disturbing that Pinnacle (being a big Video editing vendor) don't know how to write up proper multi-threading code that it will, on my system (P4 3.0E) at least crash 100% of the time if I don't set affnity and limit it to one CPU. I have yet to see any other software, good or bad, crashing that badly on multi-threading. However, they do produce nice result so guess will just have to live with the pain of remember to set the darn thing to one CPU everytime I run it.

have you guys tried running the dvd through dvdshrink first with everything set to no compression and then run the produced files through instantcopy ?

try it some time and see if it still crashes and let us know.
