After trying different methods and applications I finally came to the conclusion of using a procedure that works very well.
If you StandAlone(SA) DVD-Player can play non-standard resolutions like 544x480 or 640x480, and you don't want to expend hours re-encoding your DVB recordings then follow these steps:
1. You will need 3 different applications and all of them are freeware: MPEG2CUT(for editing), VSPLIT(to convert your edited MPG to VOB with NAV Sectors), and DVDAuthorGUI or DVDStyler(to author your DVDs with multiple titles, menu and chapters). Links to these applications are listed at the end of the post.
2. If you recordings are in PVA format then I would suggest to convert them to MPEG with PVAStrumento or PVA2MPG(included in with Technotrend's TT-PCline premium).
3. MPEG2CUT: A simple and effective MPEG2 cutter/editor, so far only used to trim the start and end of my recordings, if more editing is need it then go for the newest version. I prefer v1.15, seems more stable than the new one called MPEG2CUT2.
Once the file is edited them it must be converted to a VOB.
4. VSPLIT: This command line multiplexer which is part of TyTools an application made for TiVo extraction and conversion. The version included on my attachment is the latest, also included are a couple of batch files, one will do a simple mux to VOB using the original audio(MP2 in most cases), and the second one will transcode the audio to 2-CH AC3 format.
VSplitMP2VOB.BAT -> Original Audio
VSplitAC3VOB.BAT -> Transcode to AC3
MPG files can be drag & drop into either batch file for processing, but you must edit the batch files to show the correct path to VSPLIT.EXE.
The main reason for using VSPLIT is the ability to have a completely synched file that can be use directly by DVDAuthorGUI or DVDStyler.
I found out the hard way that if you import the edited MPG or Multiplexed(m2v, mp2) files to the Authoring application then audio synch problem will make your DVDs un-usable.
5. DVDAuthorGUI or DVDStyler: Both applications are basically a Frontend(GUI) for DVDAuthor which is part of the MJPEG Package(a collection a various tools imported from Linux to Win32).
Chapter are handled in different ways for each application, so I also included a text file with chapter points every 20 minutes for up to 2.5hours recodings.
DVDAuthorGUI is very simple to use with the choice of adding multiple title sets, menus creation, chapters, multiple audio streams, subtitles.
DVDStyler interface is very straight forward with 3 steps for authoring, first select your MPG or VOB files, select your menu background and then create titles buttons.
Either application will create a DVD folder structure or ready to burn ISO image.
6. The whole process should take less then 30 minutes with 2 or 3 titles per DVD.
You can burn your DVD folder or ISO image with your program of choice, but I prefer DVD-Decrypter for changing my ISO images Volume Label and then burn them to DVD-R.
