Qpel

Hi

I just noticed to my suprice that my DivX player (Philips DVP630-02) don't support QPEL.
I don't realy know what qpel is (oki, it got something to do with quality of the avi ...) but is there some way to remove it? Or if there is no way to remove it, is there some way to detect it before I try to run the avi in my player?

Ehrm... you should never use qpel if your encodings are targetted to be played in standalones...
Just use divx home theater profile and you'll be sure it will work.

I'm staying away from QPEL but not everyone does... do you know if there is any way to identify and / or remove QPEL encoding from a avi?

For detection of Qpel and other Mpeg4 "advanced simple profile" implementations, you can use: -

Sigma's - AVIcheck (http://82.2.167.24/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/AVIcheck_(v4.06.172.00).zip)
Sterge/SteveG's - GSpot (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82313)
Moitah's - Mpeg4 Modifier (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78050)

Sound's like you have some re-encoding to do!

Thank you for the information. It turns out that I have been running a old version of GSpot. :-)

Now there is only one more question... is there a way to remove QPEL encoding from a avi?

But given I don't know anything about Mpeg4 code who knows!

Maybe somebody like Moitah can create a tool that can switch off/remove the lines of code that enables Qpel (or even GMC) - in much the same way he did with packed bit-stream...

It's not possible, neither GMC nor Qpel. You have to reencode the movie.
