View Full Version : AVI -> VCD (not working right)

I'm trying to convert AVI (XviD, 23.976 fps) to VCD format with D2RoBa + DVD2SVCD + CCE 2.5

The length of the video is about 42 minutes but DVD2SCVD produces about 1 hour and 12 minutes long version.

First there is about 42 minutes diashow where sound works. Then rest of the video runs smooth but sound is missing. Some parts of videos are repeated. Dunno what's wrong.

Also it seems to make NTSC conversion but I want PAL-conversion. Feature can't be selected because checkbox is gray.

What is wrong. I can't understand it. I read the DVD2SCVD Doom9 guide and did same things but final version is just wrong.

BTW: I can't convert Div3 AVIs to VCD. CCE 2.5 just crashes.

Avisynth script:

LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\DVD2SVCD\AVISYN~1.5PL\Mpeg2dec\MPEG2D~1.DLL")
AVISource("F:\Files\Video\24-(2X~1.AVI",audio=false)
ConvertToYUY2()
Import("C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Tylo\RoBaConditional.avs")
BicubicResize(352,220,0.0,0.6)
AddBorders(0,34,0,34)
Import("F:\Encoded videos\ResampleAudio.avs")
ResampleAudio(44100)

EDIT:

Okay, MPV video file seems to be okay. It runs smooth, is PAL and has correct 42 minutes length. But when combined to VCD format, it's wrong. Audio is way too loud at 10% in PowerDVD.

A few questions

1. VCD is a CBR format. Using VBR encoding will not produce a standard-compliant VCD. Have you tried setting min, max and min average bitrates all to 1150 and using CBR encoding instead of D2SRoBa?

2. Do you have/Could you post a full log for this encode, rather than just the Avisynth script?

3. With your Div3 encodes, have you tried the checkbox in the Misc tab to convert to Div4 as this solves CCE crashing problems.

Cheers
Nick

1. Yes, I forced bitrate in that encode above and it seems to work now. Thanks. However, there is a problem. Re-encoded sound stream has way too high volume. I had to drop volume to 0% in PowerDVD and still hearing sound. :scared:

3. The checkbox is grayed. Can't select it. Hopefully someone can solve this.

One more question. How I can do XVCD encode with DVD2SCVD? I have Sony DVP NS300 player which supports XVCD too but not SVCD so that would be the best solution because of higher bitrate and/or resolution when I want videos for CDs.

Oh, there is also some random multicolored artifacts especially at the start of the VCD. How I can get rid of them in new encode?

Okay, I managed to use 2000 + 224 bitrate with 720x400 (720x576) resolution and playback is smooth.

Div3 also works now. Forgot to install DivX codec.

However, sound volume is still annoying. It's way too loud. Master volume must be something like 5% before it's reasonable.

How about positioning subtitles to screen? Y-pos value is vague. I tried several values but subtitles appears middle of the screen. Using D2S built-in subtitles renderer and external subtitles (SRT-format).

Heh, there is now only ONE problem and I hope someone could answer to it. :D

I can't center the subtitles, they are almost in left corner rather than middle. My XVCD encodings would be perfect if this issue can be solved.

Okay, got it fixed. Maybe it had something to do with custom resize parameters or something.

Anyone bother to post his/her opinion about what is better MPEG1 encoder for XVCD? CCE or TMPGEnc? Source AVIs are mostly DIV3 or XVID encoded MPEG2 rips with average 1100kbps bitrate.

My experience tells me that TMPGEnc is better for mpeg1 and CCE to mpeg2...

Anyone feels different?
