ESS option in AutoGK and the matrices

I'd like to know what is exactly the main fonction of this ESS option in AutoGK. Does it only redirect XviD to use standard quantization matrices ? Or it also causes something else ? If it only changes the matrice to standard MPEG used by XviD - Don't we get the same effect useing sharp MPEG matrix in hidden options ?

Since recently it also use different muxing settings (interleave in frames instead of ms)

No, "sharp MPEG matrix" means "Sharp MPEG custom matrix". So whatever matrix is used as sharp one will be used with this option.
