Errors Decrypting Star Wars

Has anyone tried decrypting Star Wars episodes 4,5,6 since they were released on tuesday?
Both DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink have errors at 51% when decrypting... Has anyone else had this happen? Has anyone used a different program and successfully completed them? Any input would be great.

I had no trouble with the R2 (dutch/french) version. You're probably talking about the R1 version....

I got the same thing on Episode 4 (Region1) tried DVD decrypter, DVD Shrink, Smartripper, and Sector extractor. I just gave up on it eventually. Maybe someone else can confirm this and hopefully come up with a solution. The error was on VTS_02_04.VOB, I couldn't get that file to rip no matter what, every other file ripped OK.

is this the latest DVDdecrypter we're talking about here? if not, try the latest, as apparently it can handle some of the newer *ahem* difficult discs.

this is the IP mafia breaking standards again, isn't it?

i wonder what would happen if you took the discs back to the store and asked for a refund because you couldn't make a backup? :devil:

I used the newest DVD decrypter (3.5.1.0) but that one file will not rip, also I forgot to mention before, I thought I had a bad disc so I exchanged it, same result.

Sorry but I can't remember the errors, I had no idea I'd be posting this, or else I would have written down the errors and kept the IFO file and posted it, perhaps someone out there would be kind enough to post the IFO file?

I wonder whether slowing down the speed at which DVD Decrypter "backs-up" the DVD might help?

Why not make a visit to the "Device" tab and then "Options" and adjust "Set Read Speed".

Tried that, also IFO mode and file mode, same result. Now that someone else is confirming this I don't think I had a bad disc, There's something there to prevent ripping.

I too had a problem with A New Hope Region 1

The way I defeated it was by ripping it with DVDDecrypter, skipping the VTS_02_04.VOB. I then used SmartRipper to decrypt just that file into the VIDEO_TS folder that DVDDecrypter created. It worked. I can't figure out why DVDDecrypter couldn't decrypt the file but SmartRipper could. Pretty Strange.

I rarely use SmartRipper, so I cannot remember what settings there are. I must be using the default settings. I'm not at home right now, so I'll try to explain by memory what I did. In SmartRipper, click on the Files button on the left side. You'll want to de-select all the files in the center button. I think there are two small buttons. Click on the one that deselects them. Then manually select just the VTS_02_04.VOB file and select the destination of where it should place it, which is the VIDEO_TS folder that DVDDecrypter created. I hope this works for you.

Using just DVDShrink (latest version) and Nero 6 Ultra Ed I copied all three discs (Region 1 Wide Screen) without a single failure.

I performed a full disc copy only deselecting the 2 channel audio and non english streams.

Had to compress to around 57% yet got a very nice image quality using the maximum smoothness settings.

Remember to force the second set of English Subtitles to display. This is to display subtitles when alien languages are being spoken.

I found the thread on Dvddecryptor.com and I quote "Jones1533"

"I got the solution, go to setting and got to the I/O tab and set software read error retries to 0 and check the box that says ignore read errors. It will take a little longer but I was able to burn a perfect copy. It seems like this is a copy protect scheme and these files that have errors on them are not needed. Dycrypter ignored like 50 errors and still I was able to shrink then burn....."

also i should add that i processed the movie with dvd95copy. dvd2one failed the first time. didnt try dvdshrink.

Hi. Did anybody try to ripp Star Wars with any program (Nero Recode 2, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter...etc) but useing AnyDVD or DVD Region+CSS Free in the background?
It could be a solution.

I had the same problem with SHREK2 and setting DVDDecryptor to ignore read errors allowed the rip to continue albeit at a slower speed.

It seems that "Ignore Read Errors" solves everything.
I decrypted all the Star Wars and had no problem shrinking them down afterwards either.

I want to backup the trilogy using DVDShrink 3.2.0.15. I used DVDDecrypter 3.2.3.0 to put the all the files on to my hard disk without any problems and the movies play fine in WinDVD but DVDShrink shows a DVD structure error and stops. I used vStrip 0.8f command-line to investigate the details of the New Hope episode. I have needed to use vStrip after using DVDDecrypter in the past to strip out extra navigation crap that confuses backup programs like DVD2AVI.

So, why is the structure of the IFO/navigation of Star Wars trilogy so weird and why does DVDShrink show errors?

I don't mean to be flood this forum, but here is the output of vStrip with only angle 1 and PGC 0 selected on the VTS_02_0.IFO file New Hope. So many VOB-ID/CELL-ID's are skipped in vStrip... huh?
Could you explain this a little more? I have not seen such a long output from vStrip before.

Are you sure that IFO mode wouldnt work straight off anyway?!

I see no reason why it wouldnt. That's all you're doing by running DVD Decrypter's File mode rip through vStrip and having it parse the IFO.

I had this problem with my first copy as well, got a new one and got the same thing. I have used DVD decrypter and DVD shrink (shrink sites some strange recirculation error or something). Also at the exact same spot as everyone else. It almost seems like a real error in the disk...why would they "copy protect" (if that's what you want to call this) the first disc and not the other two in the trilogy?

Please! Did somebody try to use DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2, but with a "on the fly" decryption program in the background? (AnyDVD or DVD Region+CSS Free).
