agk and gk filesizes are on target but manually it's not?

I've been trying to move over to xvid for some time now but the only thing keeping me away is that i can't get targeted size or bitrates when encoding manually with vdub.

for instance, i cap lots of things. when fed through gknot, the final sizes are always on. but when i set something up manually in vdub, the final size is always over. this is 2 pass encoding. mostly for tv caps my bitrate is usually between 670 and 800. but gspot reports the bitrate as above 1000. and the size is over. i have compensated for sound and used different overflow treatment settings. i just want to know what's going on since so far, agk and gk have not given me a wrong filesize. but there are times when i do need to encode in vdub and size are way off. i tried all the guides and searched the forums. btw. i'm using the XviD-1.0.2-29082004.exe release. i had, xvid-1.0-rc4-05042004.exe before that one and i still had this issue. is there a version that handles settings better?

If you put your desired filesize on the second pass you should be fine.
There are known problems of oversizing for XviD, you can raise the Overflow control strenght in the 2nd pass settings (you have to press the button just at the right of the Encoding Type in the main settings panel). Try a value of 20.

If that doesn't work, I don't know other methods, because I always get the filesize I want.

You can also try setting the minq (for each kind of frame) to 2 instead of 1... but then there could be underflows...

i tried again with different settings and still dont understand why agk will always produce a perfect sized rip and i can't do it manually using the same version build.

Try to reload defaults..... do you set a final filesize in xvid settings, as Ark said?

i always set a size in the second pass.

is there maybe a more comprehensible guide on manually getting target filesizes? i also started noticing that gknot is no longer hitting my target sizes. for instance.
22 minutes of video are my test,

in agk i set the file size to 140megs. xvid.

in gknot i do the same and they have started coming out oversized.
manually set, the same thing happens.

but agk has not produced a bad sized rip. all my rips come out perfect. or stray maybe 100-300k from target size.

i tried looking through agks tmp logs and couldn't find anything that would account for this. the reason i ask for this is because i would much rather use xvid than divx. i even tried capping the quants to 2-31-2-31 and still nothing.
