[Q] Is there any difference in the quality of image of (WMV9VCM).avi and (WMV9).wmv ?

I heard that there were the following differences.

1) Treatment at the time of the reproduction at the time of carrying out interlace maintenance.
2) Treatment about an aspect ratio.

Is there any some difference about quality of image ? :confused:

And my eyes do not become reliance... orz

The VCM doesn't use B-frames, so quality with WME should be a bit better.

:D They don't need to. They, and they alone, decide about the Windows architecture. If they want to drop vfw, they drop vfw. What would Joe Average do if M$ decided not to allow for playback of files that use a 'hacked' avi container in WMP, anymore? Not buy windows? Don't think so...

I guess in someways it was good of Micro$oft to release WMV9 VCM....

I generated quite a few encodes with it and was rather impressed with the quality of output. But found it to be too darned slow for use as a serious back-up tool.

Are both reproducible although reproduction of WMV tends to guarantee in a next-generation DVD reproduction machine?
Or do only WMV component which was made from WME ?

Personally, I don't think WMV represents the "next generation". In my opinion H.264/AVC will will bring this!

If Microsoft give up the patients of WMV9 after it become a smpte standard,that will change everything.
Even that they still keep their implementation's source code as private.
Because I don't think WME/VCM is a good implementation for this new codec.Microsoft haven't think about it seriously.

Much superior implementation will come out then.

BTW,a smpte commite document(not the final standard) which describe the VC-9's bit stream format,syntax and decoding process in all details is available on Internet. I doubt if this is an illegal document,for the company which public it.

B-frame really help produce a sharper image(more details).
Two encoding process use completely the same profile.
700k,2 pass VBR,best quality,key frame distance 2s,25fps.
