1. i don't know what format i must change the AVI files into and
2. I have the dvd2svcd program but last time i tried converting a file i got an error: cinema craft encoder SP - CCe encoding failed ERROR: video cehck sum is different from that of previous pass. Source video data or time code may be different
Current check sum:002480b0
previous check sum:00248429

i am completely lost

I also wanna know is do i have to do anything other than let the program run to convert or does it do EVERYTHING by itself.

Thanks for any help.

1.- In DVD+-R media, DVD format. But the most of the settops are able to play VCD/SVCD in CD media.

2.- As you can read in Q27 of FAQ, CCE 2.5 has a known problem with checksum. You can patch CCE 2.5 or move to CCE 2.6/2.7. (In the last case, you will also need EclCCE)

With DVD2SVCD you can choose between three output formats:
DVD (to be burned in a DVD+-R media) and SVCD or VCD which use CD media.

DVD format for sure is played by a settop, but the CD media formats (SVCD/VCD), although usually play well in a settop, it really depend on the brand/model of your settop.
