Can anybody tell me why DVD Shrink - I'm using 3.2 - does not let you use filenames larger than 16 characters? Is there any config I missed out or is it so? Any shortcuts to go around this limitation?
Thank you guys.

Is this what you're talking about?

No, not exactly 2cool. I am the one to blame. Sorry. I am talking about the volume label name you give to your shrinked DVD. For example: A volume label like "GOOD_FILM_VACATION_DISC_1" would not go, for DVD Shrink allows only 16 characters in the volume label of your project before burning the shrinked files on the HD to the DVD media. I know it doesn't make a difference, for you burn region free DVDs, and the volume label is not checked against, I think. It's only a curiosity I have, the "why not" stuff.
Any tips?
Thank you again.

CD Label
<volume-id>
Volume label of the cd-rom. Content restricted to up to 32 d-characters. See Section
B.1 [ISO646 d-Characters]. This is label usually shows up on computer systems as volume label. (case-insensitive)

I don't know the specs for a DVD volume label though.

Way to go 2COOL. ImgTool rules! It's user friendly and uses NeroAPI. Settings is easy to set. And it can support my longing for the 32 Chars. Thanx a million for the tip.

Is there some trick to this?

I've been burning with Nero, and all my volume labels are chopped at 16 characters, drives me nuts. So, I searched and found ImgTool which is supposed to fix this, burned a test disk, and it's cut off too. It shows chopped in windows, as well as DvdInfoPro:

Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID SONY08D1
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name GRASS_IS_GREENE
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero

Is it related to the drive at all? It's a Liteon LITE-ON SOHW-832S, firmware CG5G. (Technically it's an 816)

Yes there is, don't burn with crappy software. If you set the volume label in DVD Shrink and automatically burn with DVD Decrypter you'll get the full 32 chars.

Well, that is why I switched to ImgTool Burn, since 2Cool said it would work. :)

There must be some simple explanation, and easy solution. Some technical reason why my system won't show more than 16 characters, when others with the same software have it work fine.

I'm already passing through Decrypter, DVD Remake, then Rebuilder, it seems insane to have to add a fourth and fifth level of Shrink then Decrypter again.

Just don't burn with Nero and you'll be fine. Besides, you could use AnyDVD or something and thus straight 'rip' with DVD Remake to your HD.
