Useing a projecter as a moniter

I was wondering if I should get a projecter insade of a 21 inch moniter as I was thinking it could be bigger and at lower screen better picture.. I was also wondering if it would be harder on my eyes then the 21 inch and how do you use the right cropping settings on a dv to project the picture at the right ratio. One more question sorry if you use a projector on a computer to projecter do you have to deinterlace still or would it be projector interlaced?

The prices of projectors are still really sky high. LCD projectors would be even more expensive. You shouldn't even overlook the price of replacement bulbs and the like.

You can, but I prefer a monitor to a projector.

Depends on what you're using it for.

If you want a PJ instead of a Monitor to use as a monitor I'd say forget it.
The generally accepted correct viewing ratio for a projector is 1.6:1 meaning you need to be sitting 1.6 times the diagonal width of your screen away from the screen in order to view it best. Doesn't really work if you're sitting at a keyboard on a desk.

If you're talking about running a projector off a computer for video then by all means go ahead.

Just about every software player gives you full control over aspect ratios these days.

Other software products exist (such as powerstrip) that allow you to create custome resolutions. Like 1024x576 on an XGA projector. This forces a permanent widescreen aspect out of a 4:3 display (even for the windows desktop). This allows you to mount a permanent 16:9 screen. Any 4:3 material you throw at it will then be "pillar boxed" (vertical black bars at the sides).

It works well.

Either way it really depends on what the primary use is. For a primary use of video I'd go the projector. As a desktop I'd go for the CRT or even a nice LCD.

thanx but I still wondering about cropping to a setting that will force it to project to 4:3
