View Full Version : Capturing movies from a 2D video game

There is an animation in this 2D video game that I am trying to capture, but I'm running into some problems. I'm using HyperCam 2.10.02, and my system is not fast enough to capture an 800x450 window at a sufficient frame rate. If I set HyperCam to record at 30 fps, it has to drop some frames to keep up, which is unacceptable. So I thought I would try capping half of the animation at a time (first 400x450 from the left half, then 400x450 from the right half) and joining them together, but it was still dropping frames at 30 fps. So finally I did it one-quarter at a time, and it was able to do that at 30 fps without dropping any frames. I recorded 4 200x450 videos and then joined them together. But even though I was able to have each capture start at the same time, they were sometimes 1 frame out of sync with each other and I had to manually adjust each one by deleting or copying frames until they were all syncronized. It took a hella long time, and I don't plan on doing that method again. Can anyone suggest a better way to do what I am trying to do? BTW, this is my system:

Pentium 4 2.0A @ 2.5 GHz
GeForce 4 Ti4200 /w 128 MB
768 MB DDR
3 ATA-100 5400 rpm hard drives

Try "fraps". I think it can do that.

FRAPS was the first thing I tried. It only works for DirectX or OpenGL games, so it doesn't work for this one.

You talk about a "DirectDraw" game?

I'm not sure, but it plays in Windows so I would assume so.
