View Full Version : How to reduce audio data in AutoGK?

Hi

My mobile phone has the ability to play Xvid-encoded movies and I am using AutoGK to encode to movies (Easy and nearly perfect quality). When using CBR I am able to encode the audio in 64 kbps, but this adds up to a rather large amount of data compared to the video size (I am aiming for 100-120 Mb at around 200 pixels in width). The result is in fact quite good but if I could minimize the amount of data consumed by audio, the quality could be even better.
At the most I am using AutoGK to encode movies for my PC and/or TV and in that case using a far better audio quality, but regarding my phone it's a bit of an 'overkill' even to use 64kbps because of the poor loudspeaker... Around 32kbps VBR would suit better I think.
Is it possible or do i have to use GK instead of AutoGK?

I can reduce lower limit for CBR to 32kbps, but ABR encoding(i.e. what AutoGK uses for VBR) profile in LAME is 80kbps minimum.

Hi-

I have a couple of suggestions (and correct me if I'm wrong please len0x):
1.Setup the audio for Mono encoding, either CBR or ABR, using the Hidden Option. Won't that cut the bitrate in half?
2.Setup AutoGK for no audio, do the audio outside of AutoGK however you like, and allow space for the audio and overhead (GK will give that information to you) if going for a specific file size.

both suggestions are correct :)

len0x -> You mean 32 kbps in GK and not in AutoGK?

I just thought, there was a way to fix my "problem" with AutoGK, but maybe not...? In that case I will use GK instead of AutoGK... A shame actually - it's so easy and fast to set up...

Hi-

The first suggestion allows you to cut the bitrate in half, entirely from within AutoGK. Create a file named ".mono" and stick it where the movie vob files are. Then choose the AutoGK audio (64 CBR or 80 VBR) and you'll wind up with either 32 CBR or 40 VBR Mono audio. There's more information in the hidden_options.txt file in your AutoGK folder. Be sure and read the very last lines.

I see... I guess there is nothing more to do then... I made Lion King for my phone and the quality was perfect. Then I made Minority Report and the quality was bad. I know there is a great difference in the length of the movies but when I made Minority report without sound, the quality was quite ok.
But it's obvious that the quality of Minority report will be bad: 145 min @ 32kbps -> 34 megabytes which leaves around 66 megabytes for the movie, hence the movie will have an average bitrate of 64kbps.
