I'm trying to save some .mpg files I captured. I have DVDAuthor, (both command line and the GUI), but that only takes .m2v input. My VirtualDub will play the files. What software can I use to change the .mpg to something that I can use to make a DVD? I hate to demux and then remux since the files are past that. Using VobEdit, the files have a nav pack at the top and then packets of vidio to the end. No vob extensions and no IFO. My DVDAuthorGUI only takes .m2v but maybe the command line version will take what I have and work with it. Any suggestions? I'm a little intimidated using command line and without knowing what I will create or even if my files will be accepted.

since your mpeg has nav packets muxed in, you can use dvdauthorgui. Simply rename the extension to .vob (instead of .mpg). When importing the vob, switch the 'files of type' to vob when you click 'add title', (instead of 'm1v', 'm2v', 'mpv').

Thanks, I'll give it a try and post how it worked.

This is a little piece of the log I got when I tried it.

STAT: Processing C:\TEMPORARY\Video 1.vob...
WARN: System header found, but PCI/DSI information is not where expected
(make sure your system header is 18 bytes!)
WARN: Skipping sector, waiting for first VOBU...
WARN: Skipping sector, waiting for first VOBU...

My final vob had zero bytes in it. It was a neat try though. What's next?

It appears dvdauthor didn't like how the vob was multiplexed. You will probably need to demultiplex (and remux) in order to use dvdauthor.

The only program I had that would look at those .mpg files was VirtualDubMod. I used it to make .avi files. Then I put it through AVI2SVDC w/CCE to encode. I now have 11 little movie-ettes. My next job is to combine these to one movie. I have a feeling it's possible with IfoEdit but I have some reading to do to see if that will work. Any input will be read and tried.

Both my IfoEdit & VobEdit have buttons that overlay and don't seem to work. "Copy2Clpbrd" didn't do anything either that I could find. Where's the clipboard after it copies? I'll look for an update while I'm reading the how to's.
