View Full Version : crackling noises in Premiere Pro 1.5 "SOLVED"

I suddenly can't play back any audio in Premiere Pro 1.5 without crackling noises (almost seems like it picks up something from the hdd).
I think the problem appeared after the installation of SP2 on WinXP...

My soundcard is a Philips Acoustic Edge PSC 706, mainboard is an Epox 8K5A2+ (VIA KT333 chipset) - however Premiere Pro is the only prog that causes these sound problems. All my video/audio/DVD player programs work fine, as well as all my games.

I tried re-installing Premiere Pro, lowering audio hardware acceleration in dxdiag down to "no acceleration" but nothing helped.
I haven't changed the soundcard drivers since I first installed WinXP and they have always worked fine (Philips doesn't make any new drivers for my soundcard anyways...)

The only things I can think of that were changed before the problems started were 1. I installed a few plugins and demo plugins for Premiere (though only video plugins, no audio plugins) and 2. I installed SP2 for WinXP.

Any ideas/experiences what could be the cause of the audio crackling noises?

I uninstalled WinXP SP2 and it works like a charm, no more crackling sounds...

Damn, now I need to fix my Windows installation again with dozens of hotfixes - I really like SP2 apart from this problem...
